I personally have grown to hate it, at first I was open minded and I've tried to like it, I've tried to tell myself it's not that bad but the standard is in general awful. When it's on now... I just go and get a drink, take a leak, make a phone call, order food, I justtry to avoid it.
Fair enough, I personally watch if it's one of the top girls, but I don't go outta my way to find/follow the news/stories that go with it.
The talent pool is too shallow and the two minute rounds seem like an unnecessary annoyance from a previous era
There are some very talented female fighters, obviously the likes of Katie Taylor, Savannah Marshall, the self proclaimed "GWOAT" Shields spring to mind.. and to be fair there are a few others. But then there is a real drop off and at the lower level the fights are extremely poor quality. Also like @Pepsi Dioxide metioned, the two minute rounds are also an issue for me.
Casual fan, i follow the top names While its not as exciting there have been quite a few exciting fights over the last 2-3 years
hate it and don't watch it at all. I deleted DAZN off my instagram because they kept posting that trash.
I agree with you that the talent pool is too shallow but thank God for the two minute rounds. Except for a few women and rare occasions, watching them fight three minute rounds would just be an extra minute of unnecessary torture.
I used to hate it, it felt sleezy somehow but maybe that was my own prejudice on it becauss there were a few real fighters even going back to the early years. I got optimistic for a few years (the rise of Taylor and Shields), now I'm falling back again. The depth of the talent pool just hasn't got there. Generously there are 12-15 female fighters worth watching, scattered across divisions and promotions, and so they end up fighting the same weirdos and strippers that put me off of it as a sport in the first place. People complain about 2 minute rounds but the fact is most of them can't box 3 minute rounds. It would look like a 118lbs version of a sloppy low level HW fight. Edit: I should add that I'm still pulling for them, and for boxing generally. I find even mediocre boxing to be more enjoyable than any MMA fight I've seen with the exception of the whacky old fights that were on VHS, that was cool to see but it's been stale a long time.
The talent pool isn’t there yet, leading to many awful matchups, where someone in a title fight might look like they’ve never laced up the gloves before. Having said that, it has to start somewhere, and the more women’s boxing grows the better that talent pool will get.
I thought the Bridges vs Gangloff fight was pretty good. They really went for it and it was a good watch. I will watch any fighting that's exciting. I mean, the men's divisions have given us some real stinkers in the past so if the gals are ready to throw down i will watch.
I don't want to watch women beat up other women. The two genders have equal value to the species. That doesn't mean they are idential in construction and attributes. Of course there are outliers. Even so, skip.
