If he was "never" a world champ, I guess that rules out someone like Les Darcy, who was recognized as middleweight champion by Australia?

During the first world war, Darcy went America to seek a title shot, was called a slacker, for not being in the Aussie Armed Forces. Before he had a fight in the USA, Darcy died of an infection at the tender age of twenty two...:good
