Wonjongkam won today/Sosa fight on the horizon

Haven't watched it yet but as I said on the first page of this thread in agrement with you, I could see Pong's straight shots getting him the decision. Think that Sosa's good peformance vs Viloria game me a bit too much optimism on this chances in this.

Will definitely try and give this a watch tomorrow. Was thinking about starting a thread on match ups between Wonjongkam/Segura/Gonzalez in the next few days anyway.

 

I was thinking the same. Only saw a video with the last few rounds on, it was very sloppy action with Salgado slightly getting the better of it IMO before going down in the 12th. Don't know if it was because the early rounds had been of such a high intensity but if the rest of the fight was like that, it will be a struggle to watch .

What I saw was almost boredring on Area level :yep (maybe a slight exaggeration)

 

The early rounds were INSANE from what I've read. Apparently Argenis was hard done by too. Can't judge though seeing as nobody's uploaded it yet.:conf

 

From what I saw, they both looked tired and as though they had nothing behind their punches. Off balance and generally sloppy too so I suppose tiredness from the first half of the fight is defintely the most logical reason.

Begs the question though, why not upload the first few rounds instead of the last few ?

I remember being so grateful that I actually watched Roman Gonzalez-Chango Vargas live because all that was uploaded was the final three rounds(which were still class by the way, the tempo maintained a ridiculously high level). I didn't watch said video of the 130 pounders, I wouldn't want to glean my outlook of an entire fight based on the final rounds, especially when the early-mid rounds were supposedly great.

 

May I say, before I watch this, that we really, really, don't give Pong enough credit for his choice of headwear? That hat is ace.

i'm sure this questions being given numerous times but why didnt donnair and this dude ever meet in the ring, i dont know **** about Pongsaklek wonjongkam. But from the highlights iv seen he seems to have slick skills

 

Donaire refused to go to Thailand for fear of being screwed, Pong refused to leave Thailand for fear of being screwed.

 

Watched the fight last night and I had it a lot closer than pretty much everyone else. 115-114 Wonjngkam was my scorecard with a couple of even rounds in the first half of the fight and obviously Pong losing a point in the 9th. I just thought that although Wonjongkam was landing the more eye catching, solid shots Sosa was probably landing a greater volume of scoring punches which did sway me a bit in the closer rounds. When Wonjongkam really started countering very effectively later on, he pulled away a bit and though I only had 1 point difference, I don't think I could be any more generous to Sosa so without doubt Pong was the worthy winner in my eyes. And it's not bias either, I'm not really a big Sosa fan !

He disappointed me though because it certainly was a winnable fight for him. His tactics weren't good IMO and they lost him the fight. As I said in my post on the first page, Sosa can fight at mid-long range and have success but that is Pong's speciality and he played right into hisd hands. He wasn't going to win that type of fight vs a quicker, taller opponent.

But he had chances to take the fight to the inside and rough Pong up a bit, especially early on. Wonjongkam was open to the body all fight I thought and leading there with hooks would have been very successful imo. I don't rate Pong as an inside fighter at all so I just can't see why Sosa didn't at least try and take the fight there at least on a few more occasions. He even neglected his excellent left hook which would have been a great weapon if he had used it behind the straight rights he was landing. I just thought it was a bit of an odd performance and a shame because I really think Pong's there for the taking at this stage of his career. It was a good win for Wonjongkam but nothing really to write home about for me, more of a case of just getting the job done which to be fair Wonjongkam is an expert at, and I'd doubt his chances frankly if he looked at the likes of Segura next.

Bit of a rant that but I'm hungover so there's my excuse
