What's your thoughts ? i personally think both fights ended prematurely. And both Wood, Hovhannisyan, should've been allowed to carry on.

Anyone crying that the Wood vs Lara fight ending prematurely needs to get their head examined. Wood was out of it. Yes, he got up. Yes, he was semi-coherent. However, ten seconds is a long time for Lara to bang away at him while he is still recovering from that terrific left hook he got caught with. I guess some people wanted to see Wood twitching on the floor and ending in a coma. Then they would be on here crying why the ref or corner did not stop the fight after that brutal knockdown.

Yes both were ended prematurely, by a panicked corner and squeamish ref, respectively.

Fights should be allowed to go to their natural conclusion, until someone hits the canvas and stays there. In the old days, they had the right idea!!

    Not at all.
Nery's fight was perfectly stopped. Hovannnisyan had won 1 round at most, and he was getting a brutal and consistent beating that will for sure leave him permanent damage. That was a perfect stoppage.

Wood's fight is a totally different case.

Froch called Wood the next day. And wood said he had nothing left and if the round finished he'd have quit on his stool.

So, unless we wanted to see a brutal knockout it was the right call.

I'm actually surprised Wood admitted to that. I actually have more respect for honesty. Good luck to him next time.

Making a fighter quit on his own is way worse for your confidence than the corner stopping it

I think his corner did the right thing.
I also think Lara was waiting for the shot and had expanded very little energy.
rematch is fine because they wanted the lara fight to showcase and it back fired but they gave him the shot he wasn't a mandatory.

Azat was taking an absolute shellacking and at 34, he's well on his way to CTE. His punches wasn't even hurting Nery at the end.

Wood took some heavy shots but was competitive towards the end. He deserves to make it to the break and get that one minute rest.

I thought so initially but looking at it closely. His legs wasn't under him. Stiffed and would be a sitting duck. That one left hook lara landed did that to him. Imagine Lara landing a few bombs on a sitting duck? Think peoples!!

    Wood's legs were in Stankville.

This is probably the best case scenario for him cause he can claim it was stopped prematurely.

Wood's corner did the right thing. He was out on his feet. Azat and Nery was also a good stoppage IMO of course. Nery landed 2 flush left hooks and Azats hands were down, open for another blistering shot. Both were good stoppages to me

Wood's corner threw in the towel (with impressive precision), so that fight would have been stopped in any era.

I might have liked to Hov get a little more rope. He's made a lot of choices in life that all paint the same picture of a guy who values winning fights over maintaining his health. If you're going to protect a fighter then protect him early, if you're going to see if he can pull off that Chavez vs Taylor hail mary punch then let him try, but landing in the middle where you let him take a massive beating then pull the plug is just cruel.

I think at least half of all towel throws are "oh **** he's about to quit on his own better save his career!"

It's kind of weird to say because wins and losses do matter but Wood could do a rematch win it again even if it's a decision and not too wide and boring and just move on.

    Joshua did it with Ruiz
Kovalev did it with Eledeir Alvarez

sometimes you just get caught or have a bad night. Lara might have been saving gas in the tank but he won 2 rounds max
