Woodcutting help Boxing?

    To be honest, I don't give a **** what boxing coaches have to say about weight training. You may as well ask them how to train for rugby or 100m sprint while you're at it. Boxing and weight training are two very different things.

    Tell you what, give me the reasons these coaches gave you as to why boxers should not lift heavy weights and I'll tell you why they're wrong. You did ask why didn't you, or are you a blind follower like most boxers?

    :lol: Do you have trouble reading? Aside that you have no clue about s&c for boxing?
    Been to quite a few boxing gyms son and i have fought and im still saying that boxing coaches dont know anything about s&c(not just weights) for boxing.

    No, but I HAVE seen trainers talk about 'what to do' for S&C and they have come out with some ridiculous stuff! (Ie: spot reduction exercises etc). :lol:

    Boxing is YEARS behind when it comes to S&C. Go and see what the boys over in MMA, Rugby, NFL are doing.

    Lol @ Sit up's and Running for tons of miles being the staple of your S&C work!

    All due respect, Scrap; But you do come across as 'The Oracle' on here.

    What they do is a LOT better and more ideal than what most Boxers do, IMO.

    Shadow-Boxing with weights? :lol:

    10 Mile Runs a day? :lol:

    Sit Up's x200? :lol:

    Crunches? :lol::lol:

    They still do now what they did in the 30's and 40's!

    They will tell you how to box but not how to optimally strengthen and condition their fighters.

    Why did guys like Hoyfield, Roy Jones Jr and Hopkins hire guys like Mackie Shilstone? Why does Alex Ariza get to work with so many world class boxers?

    Shilstone and Ariza couldn't teach a fighter anything about boxing skill, technique and strategy like an experienced boxing coach. What they can do is get a fighter in peak physical condition.

    Why do so many top fighters have S&C specialists in their team along with a boxing trainer? The nutritionist, physiotherapist, sports psychologist etc. Because they all have an area of expertise and knowledge the boxing trainer lacks.

    How do literally 75% of threads here turn into a weights debate...

    Chopping wood and pounding tires with a sledgehammer are excellent exercises, especially for punching power. And if you think swinging an ax/hammer that weighs a few pounds is a mass-gaining exercise that's gonna turn you into the hulk then you're just dumb and there is no hope for you. It's primarily a workrate exercise with benefits for the hands/wrists/forearms. Thus, power.

    And to add to the debate, one can lift extremely heavy weights without gaining any weight, and still make strength gains. Weights are not bad for boxers. Heavy weights are not bad for boxers. Weights don't necessarily add muscle. Using weights for mass-gaining like an NFL player or heavyweight is generally bad for a person in lower weight classes. Using light weights for a ton of reps like a woman is counterproductive for most things but you'll have ***y legs at least. Using heavy weights for low reps is usually the best, but you'll still gain muscle if you eat too much, and if you don't eat too much you'll generally feel like ****. !!!!!!!!!SCIENCE BITCHES!!!!!11!!1

    Here's my favorite part: Training wrong isn't a huge deal. Rocky ran through snowdrifts up a mountain in frigid weather. Drago did the oly lifts and roids. Hagler and Ali ran in army boots. Dempsey chewed bark and rubbed stuff on his face to make his skin tougher. Chuvalo chewed a lot of gum. Jeffries ran like 20 miles a day. Fitzsimmons did interval training. The important thing is training, since most things make you better in some way.

    All im saying is from my experience, they are no better. I come into contact with a lot of different Sports. Once a week theres a bunch of us meet, for a natter. It includes some major players in Sports Science, these include Dr and Lectures in the Field of Sport. Subject is usually whats wrong with things. Got to be careful here :D, problem could be what is taught at Uni, stops people thinking, is the thinking. Plus its widespread. Theres no thinking outside the Box, thats where new ideas come from once proven. Nothing new comes out of Uni,s, its what goes in that makes a difference.:yep

    You don't need weights in the traditional sense.

    However advanced body weight calisthenics and kettlebell swings/get ups will improve your strength without destroying your longevity which these young kids that espouse heavy and Olympic style weight lifting cannot comprehend.

    Swinging an ax is similar to a kettlebell swing considering the tension and release necessary to perform it.
