Being reported by the BBC that Clinton Woods will fight Elvir Muriqi at the end of December. Can't find anything else on it, but they have quotes from Dennis Hobson, so looks solid. Thoughts? For me, Woods looked like a guy who should retire against Tarver. I was baffled by how absolutely lacking any passion or fire his performance was. Unless there was some specific reason why that was so, I don't think him getting back in the ring is doing anyone any favours.
I always though it was slated for Jan/Feb of next year, but if it's this year I won't complain. God knows why he choked against Tarver - really pissed me off that, staying up till God know's when. Woods was the last fighter I expected to turn in a pathetic performance like that one.
Yeah, I was very very disappointed with Woods there. Of all things for him to do, you'd never expect him to retreat into his shell but he just seemed overawed and it's hurt his profile very badly, especially in the States. He's got a chance to redeem himself here. This fight won't do it alone, but a good showing can get his name back in the mix again at least.
He won't get another big fight, surely? Why would someone bother....... 1. He is capable of beating most 175lb'ers 2. TV might be scared off
I have no idea why he messed up against Tarver. Even at the press conferences he wasn't fazed one bit by Tarver's trash talking and gave as good as he got but on fight night he just didn't perform. Even when he faced a prime Roy Jones and had virtually no chance of winning he gave a very brave performance and didn't discredit himself at all. Hope he beats Muriqi and gets another shot even if it seems unlikely.
Hope he comes back an just shows his sheffield steel!!? We can only speculate what happend to him, but only he can tell you what happend...am sure he will be looking to put things straight, an show how much he still wants this!!?
Clinton has just been on "Look North" confirming that he will fight Muriqi early next year (couldn't hear properly because of the bloody kids). I must say that I am quite worried about Woods as during the interview he seemed to be out of it, slurring his words slightly.:?
I thought I read somewhere that they discovered after the fight against Tarver he had contracted a mild case of meningitis and this was to blame for the performance?
Makes one wonder they they don't check for these things before a fight. It would save me having to stay up all night to watch a less than satisfying performance.
I was soooo disappointed in Clinton that night. He should have won that fight on pure workrate alone, but just never got out the blocks. Don't know how I feel about this rematch. Just hope Clinton's doing it because he still wants it and not just in some vein attempt to save face or put the record straight if that makes sense. Thoroughly decent bloke is Clinton, and I'd hate to see him ruin what remains a decent career in my eyes at least.
