It did look like Hopkins buckled Kovalev at one point later in the fight right a lead right hand.

Last time a rumor like this popped up it was about Chad Dawson getting clocked cold by Edison Miranda in sparring to prep for the Andre Ward fight. Dawson's trainer Scully confirmed this a week after the bout although he said the stories of smelling salts being used and Dawson being out of it for days were completely exaggerated. Who knows. But plenty of great fighters have been dropped in sparring before some of their biggest wins, so it doesn't matter all that much from where anyone outside the Kovalev camp sits.

People have this weird notion that no world class fighter EVER gets dropped in sparring despite sparring other world class fighters. It happens. Often... Sort of like the notion that everyone on ESB believes that fighters don't ever drop down 15+% of their body mass to make weight. It happens. And not just often, but literally every single fighter. Example being Bone vs. Porter. When you get a fighter taking a fight on no notice, they always compete 2+ divisions above their usual fighting weight even when they are in active training. Weight cutting is a huge part of the game (see the scene of boxing for the article today on Duva speaking on Kovalev's weight draining). Just like how sparring, and getting hurt or dropped in sparring, is.

 

Kovalev wins the fairly comfortably despite any rumours.
