List some words and phrases that you feel are tossed around way too much for your liking. Bear in mind, the more loosely these terms are used, the less credibility and weight they hold.

Duck: Nowadays it seems like every time an offer is refused or negotiations fall through, someone is accused of "ducking". IMO, you can't duck what isn't in your direct path. And it's no coincidence that the defensive and/or "safe" boxer is typically accused of ducking. Common perception is that the come forward fighter is more willing to engage thus more willing to fight anyone.

Exposed: The minute someone loses they are instantly "exposed". Exposed as what? A fraud? A bum? A loser? Sometimes you just step in the ring against the better fighter. An exposure to me would be losing the minute you step up in class while being hyped to the stars. Which brings me to my next one...

Hype-Job: Commonly used to describe someone that is nearly unanimously seen as talented, by someone who doesn't believe the hype. The problem is that it is tossed around way too much. I know we're all boxing fans and want to be the next prophet but let's take it easy with this one. I can't classify any world class athlete as a "hype-job", it's ludicrous.

Bum: Lord have mercy... a "bum" to me has always been someone who doesn't have the heart or desire to win. If someone has the heart or desire but not the talent, I'd call them a journeyman. While "bums" may exist in boxing, it's used often to discredit the fighter going up against said "bum". And like Xelloss pointed out in another thread, it's wise to specify whether someone is a bum or just "bummed out" during a match.

Glass Jaw: This is tricky... as "iron chin" and "heart" are often confused, I've drawn my own conclusion but more on that in a sec. I see the term "glass jaw" getting tossed out the minute someone gets spaghetti legs. Not taking into account that it may have just been a perfectly timed punch, or the punchee (receiving end) didn't properly brace for impact. Whatever the case may be, getting jelly legged from a single punch doesn't instantly mean you have a glass jaw (unless Paulie clocks you). Here's my definitions...

Glass Jaw: Someone who is repeatedly quickly hurt from multiple opponents of ranging power. A great example is Amir Khan.

Iron Chin: Someone takes a ridiculous amount of punishment and refuses to go down or even flinch. A perfect example is Ruslan Provodnikov.

Heart: Someone who can get knocked out and get back up and fight their ass off. A great example is Timothy Bradley.

So what do you think? Agree, disagree? Examples?

Runner, coward and others... Someone who is able to counter punch his opponents well and boxes on the backfoot, usually has good defense. If you have the skill to avoid the punches and don't want to get hit, you're a coward.

These phases are not necessarily used IN the sport of boxing. They are used BY boxing's trolling fans.

Puncher not necessarily the word itself but it ****es me off how punchers very often seem to be reduced to this single quality and boxing fans completetely disregard al their other attributes.

    'Prime' and it's variants 'pre-prime' and 'post-prime.'
Unless a fighter is 100% in his prime, a loss doesn't count.
If he lost, he is/was not therefore in his prime.
So it becomes a circular and absurd argument.
