I was going say you your grandad must've been proud - **** what am i on about - your grandad must be the proudest grandad in the world anyway atsch
Good story Swarmer. Unfortunately, in my family only me & my dad follow the sport. My dad doesn't follow nowadays much but he does remember the 70's heavyweight era, Tyson's reign, and when the Fab 4 ruled he earth(My dad's in his 40's now lol). My mom knows abit too because she's been with my dad all of these years. She wants me to teach my nephews to box when they get older lol.
Joe Louis was probably the best at throwing short-combinations. Just beautiful to watch I also love how he walked away after putting his man down.
I would have to respectfully disagree with the old man, Swarmer, but it's a nice story. Thanks for sharing.
you should ask him about the billy conn fight if he thought ali didn't have a chance - ali was 40 pounds heavier than conn at 174lbs. nice to hear your grandfathers opinion tho.
I really do think Conn and Ali fought quite differently. And I don´t think the first Conn fight is an indication for Louis-Ali, even so people constantly act as if it is so. Conn stood his ground, he slugged it out with Louis at times. Ali wouldn´t do so, and if he would, he´d get knocked out. His "hands at the waist" defence will spell trouble against Louis.
Conn actually did a good job of parrying Louis's heavy leads as well too, a skill Ali really didn't have. I think people always forget how ridiculous Joe's handspeed is when they think of this matchup. Hard to lean and sway away from combinations like that.
