I'm all for clean effective punching, but when a guy get's taken out of his gameplan and doesn't do anything for 7 of the 12 rounds because he's constantly under fire, he can't win the fight.

I agree,Calzaghe's volume won him the fight but even so I had it 114-113.
You could argue Hopkins won it anyway,it was way to close for comfort.

i assume those that pick The fighter who throws more and lands more are in favor of olympic computer scoring. -IDIOTS.

Clean effective punching is more important...

    BUT

in this fight the disproportion was so HUGE you just had to give it to the guy who was more active.

well some would say that Oscar beat Floyd but I cant see how a man who was winging shots and hitting thin air could win a fight. Floyd pot shotted to be honest for the entire fight and won the decision but some would definitely argue that Oscars workrate was higher but less effective.

So who really won the fight? Well ring generalship should answer that question...

    it depends.

Like if one fighters lands 100 punches, but the opponent lands only 1 punch, but that one punch is cleaner than the 100 punches the other one landed?

and what if one fighter lands 50 punches, and the opponent lands 49, but those 49 are all cleaner and more effective?

I can't pick one way or the other for the poll question but seeing the results from other posters will say alot

i think cleaner punches shoudl win the fight but you should at least land 50% the amount of the guy whos just throwing ****

Well.. Johnson was more active AND he landed the more effective punches..

I mean honestly.. Johnson was never hurt once while Dawson was buzzed multiple times..

I give credit to the guy throwing lots of shots and landing more than the guy whos throwing less and landing less but cleaner in most cases but sometimes I give it to the cleaner more effective fighter.
    Examples
    Joe Vs Hopkins = Hopkins
    DLH Vs Mayweather = May
Ponce Vs Penalosa = Ponce he broke records and probably landed twice as much.
Castillo Vs May 1 = Castillo landed more and threw more.

    Winky v Vargas
    Berto v Collazo
    Winky v Taylor

are perfect examples of those type of fights. Volume vs quality.

depends on the fight. i always try and pick the guy i would rather be in the fight. i always go with the guy kicking the most ass. if the fighter is geting the best of it, the style he is using is of peripheral importance in my judging of the round.

Depends on the exchanges of course.

If fighter 'A' throws 80 punches in a round, lands 20, and 5 cause a reacation in fighter 'B' to break from the action and disengage, and fighter 'B' throws 16 punches in a round, lands 12 and they have no effect on the exchange or the opposite fighter, then how can you score it for fighter 'B'.

There's a difference between Clean punching and Clean effective punching.
