World Boxing Association Rating Lists: I'm looking for the complete monthly boxing lists for the WBA/NBA for the 1960's and 70's if anyone on the Forum, might have access.
they do not have them month to month, 1968 alone barely has any 1966-75. They skip, then as of 1973-75 they quit including the dates. After 1975 , they quit listing them all together
By the mid/late seventies the wba and wbc had been taken over by latin countries, who had been trying to assume control for almost 10 years, and after that the ratings are worthless and the organizations run like banans republic dictatorships. I dont know how or why anyone pays an ounce of attention to them anymore or why state commissions recognize them. If everyone ignored them they would die the death they deserve.
You can cross compare the rankings found in boxing illustrated and fill in the gaps by doing research into the newspapers. On occasion you might have to research specific fights and fighters to find a single rating and build it out from there but it can be done.
If I have to pick one say 1960-80 , I'd probably have to go with Ring Magazine, And thats unabised the WBA which seemed to be the most powerful, actually rated my favorite fighter's higher. and WBC by 1970 was really a joke.
YES I've done all that too, crossed BI WITH THE NEWSPAPERS (1967-75 have printed 80 WBA TOP TEN LISTS) needed (108), I've took a chance that someone out their would just have the lists, See As of Boxing Illustrated i've said they quit printing the dates of they WBA 1973-75, And quit printing WBA & WBC altogether in 1976 -so then you have to go by the date of the magazine, which is 3 months behind to begin with, its the pitts, i've done a remarkable job really, and your right, sometimes you just have try to find it in the fights themselves, and thats another adventure! And Ali had to win in court June 29, 1971, to even get they WBA TO RANK HIM Again! And he had to win that title 4 differant times , not three-it was four! Case in point WBA release's its Ratings 6/17/70- 4. Jerry Quarry vs 5. Mac Foster 6/18/70 Fifth Ranked Jerry Quarry ko's Mac Foster one notch above Quarry in the sixth Round! MAY 1971 Chuvalo #7 -then unranked until May 1974 #10, who did he beat? better question, who did he even fight? Now you can kinda see why i go with "Ring" and that was not ez to get them all either, and cost a small fortune. 1959-79 ,yet I got em.
