From WORLD BOXING magazine, November 1975: I saw the front cover of this magazine on the web. There is a blond haired young man on the cover with gloved hands in a fight stance. The title says: "By 1978 this man may be the World HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION." I have no idea who this fellow "is" or "was" or what became of his career.

Here is a link on google images:

On the above link the fighter in question is in the first line, third from the left.

Anyone know who this fellow is/was?

  5. This is the great white hope Alexander Dankybalz. He was a beast. The Americans were not ready for a white beast like him.

Might be Lou Esa. Started his career around then, and KO1ed his first several opponents. Trained with Angelo Dundee and had a little buzz behind him, but couldn't stay out of trouble and turned out to be not that great. These days he's a trainer.

I don't think Lou Esa had blond hair. Plus from the background it looks like the fighter in question was from California or Hawaii or some tropical locale. I really doubt it is Lou. Hey, Lou - - - since you are a writer here - - *is* that picture of you?

Oh no way. Duane had red shaggy hair and a different look. Plus WORLD BOXING would have identified him on the cover as Duane was quite well known at the time being an Olympiad. I suspect this guy was an up and comer who either got clobbered and quit the ring after a step up in class or simply lost interest in the sport and quit on his own. Still am curious as to who it is. :huh
