Be interesting to see if Eubank Jr goes in. No better way to prove he's as good as he says.. and if he doesn't go in then I lose the tiny bit of respect I have left for him
I guess SMW's would certainly apply, as the division looks weak atm and the purses are much better as they would otherwise get. Cruiser is red hot nowadays and it would certainly be great to see all of them square off against each other.
Eubank wont apply for this, why should he ? He's the best in the world, HE RUNS THE MW AND SMW DIVISION, why would he sign up to fight in a tourney with all them bums ?! He'll fight David Brophy next and then hunt for Rocky Fielding to see who the King of England really is.
Usyk, Gassiev, Briedis, Lebedev, Dorticos, Glowacki... All gave been quiet since thier last fights. Maybe It's a good sign.
Yeah, Gassiev and Glowacki were in negotiations to fight each other at one point. Even if only half those names are in the tourney, we'd get a number of really good, solid matchups. And I'd love to see Usyk, Gassiev, and Briedis square off for the title of the best cruiserweight in the world.
Adds up to $9 million over three bouts for the winner of the whole thing. Every boxer in the world except Canelo, GGG (against Canelo anyway), Joshua, Klitschko, Mayweather, and Pacquiao should be clamouring to take part in this series. I'm super psyched and I think it's the best news for boxing we've got in ages. I am worried some promoters, especially TR and GB won't want to risk giving up control of their top fighters careers, but if this is done right it should be able to make money for every promoter involved, and keep the series running going forward. I love Richard Schaefer! Cruiser is a perfect first division. No reason the best cruisers shouldn't be there. Usyk, Gassiev, Dorticos, so many good matchups. Super middle isn't one of my favourite divisions and Degale's already clear top guy, but can't complain about the series for any division.
Hmm, Schaefer says there are several 'catchweight participant applicants'. If that means middlweights moving up, Jacobs, Saunders, Eubank or Derevyechenko taking on Dirrell, Groves, etc would make for a good super middle.
