So, maybe this is first quarterfinal for super-middle.

As expected, the IBF has elevated Jose Uzcategui from its interim super middleweight champion to super middleweight champ now that James DeGale has given up that title.

The IBF also revealed Thursday that it has ordered Uzcategui to make a mandatory defense of his 168-pound championship against Caleb Plant. Handlers for Uzcategui and Plant have been given until August 5 to come to an agreement or a purse bid will be ordered.

The 25-year-old Plant, a native of Ashland City, Tennessee, is ranked No. 2 by the IBF among its super middleweight contenders. The top spot in the IBF’s 168-pound ratings is vacant.

So, the model seeds picking who they fight is the same as the first season.
    Fights announced were mandatories.
Draw gala will go ahead as usual.

As far as weight classes go, there will be no heavyweights and no light heavyeights in this season of World Boxing Super Series.
Super-middle or cruiser-weight will be the third weight class. Light-heavy is too difficult to make at this point. Super-middle and cruiser is the easiest to make. in super-middle there are a lot of Americans there, so that would give more viewing numbers to DAZN. Degale has vacated and IBF has ordered Caleb Plant/Uzctegui as the Uzctegui's first title defense.
Kalle wants to do repeat of cruiser but it's unlikely due to these things.
Repeat of cruiser-weight will depend on what happens after cruiser-weight final. If Gasiev wins he will vacate all the titles and move up to heavyweight, as he has previously stated, so that gives room for the repeat of cruiser-weight tournament with Tabiti, Dorticos and Briedis involved but Gasiev can change his mind and not to move to heavyweight straight away. Usyk has said that he will think over if he moves to heavy straight away because he and his team has to look at heavyweight landscape. Giving the current heavyweight landscape it's very unlikely for Usyk or Gasiev to move to heavyweight straight away. These factors can put a dent to repeat of cruiser-weights. As of now, I don't see how can they do the repeat fo cruiser-weights and even more so, Kalle just recently has stated that he is not going to put winner of cruiser-weight competition in a repeat of cruiser-weights and he might not even put a finalist in it. So all that makes repeat of cruiser-weight unlikely. Repeat of cruiser-weights might happen only if the both finalists move to heavyweight and vacate all the belts but that would be unwise thing to do as Joshua is tied up and Wilder would be unwilling to fight Gasiev or Usyk.

    P.S.

As far light-heavy goes, Artur Beterbiev will fight only in October if he even fights in October as he has appealed the decision and might change the direction if he wins the appeal. Gvozdyk will fight Adonis in November most likely, so these factors are putting an end to light-heavy tournament.

I think we will see light-heavyweights in the third season.

“The draw (of the World Boxing Super Series Season Two) is a very meaningful event, one of the most important. Our fighter Mikhail (Misha) Aloyan (WBA #5 and IBF #9 bantamweight with a record of 4-0) is already part of the series, and he will fight for the world title in his next outing. This is great motivation – both for the newbies and for established fighters. For each boxer we can provide everything necessary to complete a success story. All they should do is to train diligently and compete”, said Kremlev.

“We have signed a contract (with Comosa AG) not only for the Gassiev vs. Usyk, but also for a quarterfinal and a semifinal of the upcoming series. We shall celebrate a real holiday of world-class professional boxing. We'll have the draw on 7/20 with a number of stellar names, joining one another for competition, on 7/21 is the WBSS Cruiserweight Final, and finally on 7/22 is the International Boxing Day”, concluded Kremlev.

Relikh vs Troyanovsky and Aloyan vs TBA will probably take place in Russia.

Also is Usyk vs Gassiev still in jeopardy?

I think, I understand the reason for making cruiser weight competition for the first season. I think it was made because somebody needs dethrone Joshua from heavyweight throne.

As for repeat of cruiser weight, I think it's a bit pointless because if either one of the finalists stay in cruiser weight division than competitors of repeat will be seen as underachievers. And viewing numbers and ticket sales will be lower.

The winner of repeat of cruiser-weight tournament will never beat Joshua because the cruiser division isn't that deep. Maybe Okolie and Egorov stands a chance but apart of them, I don't see much use of the repeat.

Who would watch Masternak fight Okolie? No one will in US or Russia or Scandinavia for that matter.
If they move forward with the idea of repeat of cruiser weight this won't be as good as the first because of names who are not known to vast majority of boxing viewers and would be seen as a failure by US boxing experts and broadcasters.
And per instance in Russia the first PPV event last year did 700 buys with well known Russian names from boxing world and that is the one of the few reasons why the TV broadcasters from Russia aren't making the World Boxing Super Series as the PPV event and won't do it in the near future.

But frankly speaking, I don't think the repeat of cruiser-weight will go ahead. I bet Shaefer will be totally against it and others from Cosma group as well with only several members at best of the board wanting it.
