The light heavyweight competition looks even more unlikely than before. Kovalev/Alvarez is set for August 4th.

Another win for the 'Home of Boxing' right?

There tournaments are the greatest 'fan friendly' events in the sport.....
And once again they're being ruined by US boxing politics.

Usyk v Gassiev, potential for fight of the decade, not picked up by US tv.....

Imagine the possible Welterweight tournament we could've had when there was Brook/Thurman/Porter/Garcia at 147. I'm sure guys like Khan would've also campaigned at that weight for the tournament.

Just because networks pass on a fight between two guys no one in the U.S. has ever heard of, they’re being ruined?

Hey, that’s what’s marketing is for — create a demand. They should get more name U.S. fighters involved in the tournaments if they want U.S. interest.

And FFS, why do the same division again? What’s the point?

Rigondeaux was invited to join the Bantamweight WBSS Tournament but turned it down as doctor advised him not to cut that much weight.

Jose Ramirez will face Danny O Connor for the WBC title on July 7. Ramirez will not take part in this competition.

Dan Rafael suggests that according to his knowledge, there is a chance to organize a heavyweight tournament at WBSS. Official information on this matter is to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Do you have a link to this?

HW could be difficult IMHO. No way Joshua and Wilder are in, I think Miller, Pulev, Whyte and Povetkin are all waiting for a shot at one of the two.

Could get some decent contenders and former champions together, but LHW or cruiser repeat would be better IMHO.

That would mean Whyte been sh*t on by the WBC.

I think Ramirez vacated to avoid Prograis coz they ordered that fight next and Ramirez wanted a tune up.

Edit: my bad, although it’s true Ramirez wanted a tune up, Prograis vacated to enter the WBSS so Ramirez did not duck him. I stand corrected.

Old Bob also wanted them both to take interim fights on the same card. Prograis was against that. But those talks all died down real quick, most likely due to WBSS.

Kalle Sauerland denied information given by journalist Dan Rafael about the possible World Boxing Super Series in heavy weight. The second season of WBSS will start in September, and the boxers will compete in three weight categories this time.

A few weeks ago, Sauerland, one of the organizers of WBSS, suggested in the social media that a re-tournament in the junior heavy category was possible. Now the German confirmed this information, but no official declarations from him were made.

In the first edition of the World Boxing Super Series, Krzysztof Włodarczyk participated in the limit of 90.7 kg, but he was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Krzysztof Głowacki was also a substitute in this competition.

Sauerland told Sky Sports for a story posted to the British network’s website Thursday that Naoya Inoue has agreed to participate in the World Boxing Super Series’ 118-pound tournament if he defeats Jamie McDonnell on May 25.
