    It’s great to kick things off with three champions already signed up,” Sauerland told Sky Sports. “The overall concept of the product is to have the best against the best, so we are in a great place. McDonnell versus Inoue is a cracking fight and the winner is a natural to go in this tournament.

    “There’s certainly a space in the tournament for the winner and we’re very close with Inoue. We’ve agreed to terms with him, so Inoue is agreed. With McDonnell, we will speak to him and his team after the title clash on May 25. We will just have to see after their fight, but I’m hopeful that the winner goes in.”

    They really wanted Rigondeaux at 118. His physician gave it a no go. They said he weighed 119 for a bout in 2010, but it wouldn't be healthy for him to do now. He's probably kicking himself for going after stardom two weight classes up last time out. Adding muscle, to fight at 130 likely made it impossible to cut down to 118 and be healthy at his age.

    Two sources spoke with reporter George Ebro and indicated that Rigondeaux was approached about the possibility of taking part in the tournament - but after seeking medical advice, it became apparent that it wasn't safe for Rigondeaux to cut his weight from 122 to 118.

    Rigondeaux has fought at 122 since his pro debut. And the lowest he's ever weighed was 119.5-pounds - and that was back in 2010.

    "The people of the Super Series were in love with the possibility of counting on Rigondeaux," said a source to Ebro. "It was the name they mentioned the most. I think it would have been a tremendous opportunity for him to win money and go back to being the world champion.''

    "Nobody better understands his body than he does and his decision is respected. If he says he can not take off those pounds, then he can not, period. But an opportunity of this magnitude will rarely come around again. He will continue fighting, but against whom and winning what. Those are the questions that matter.''

    Expect a repeat of a cruiserweight competition. Light heavy looks very hard to make.

    According to rumours in Russian press, the 140lb WBSS tournament is mostly secured, with just a single spot still vacant. Aside of Relikh and Troyanovskiy, five more names are circulating:

    • WBC Interim champion Regis Progrias (21-0, 18 KOs) – 29 years, USA;
    • WBC/WBO #7 and European champion Anthony Yigit (21-0-1, 7 KOs) – 26 years, Sweden;
    • WBC #2, IBF #10 and WBO #14 Josh Taylor (12-0, 11 KOs) – 27 years, Scotland;
    • IBF #4 and WBC #15 Ivan Baranchyk (18-0, 11 KOs) – 25 years, Belarus;
    • WBC #8 Ryan Martin (22-0, 12 KOs) – 25 years, USA.

    Pumped for Taylor.

    I’d love it if Broner was thrown in there but zero chance.

    That's decent. Not as stunning as bantamweight should be with Tete, Burnett, Inoue, Rodriguez, etc., or cruiserweight last year, but better than the SMWs of 2017-2018.

    Taylor vs Prograis is my pick for the final if they are on opposite sides, both are legit talents IMHO.

    I believe it's cruiserweights this year as well. Wlodarzcyk will face Durodola in June I think and Lebedev will fight in a tune up in July/August, plus Glowacky will fight in a tune up soon as well, so this is good get ready fights for repeat of the cruiserweight competition.

    “Yeah I would expect at least one weight above middleweight. We have the big weights, middleweight and above, and you got the smaller weights. I won’t do heavyweight, I would love to do heavyweight. I would never rule out anything. Cruisers part two is exciting, light heavies is exciting, super middleweights, I think it might take another year to get some new faces in. Middleweights you have to rule out because of Canelo and Golovkin are sorta the middleweight division at the moment and Billy Joe Saunders as well and you need at least two of those three. That ain’t going to work. You can’t compete with an HBO pay-per-view [for September 15],” Sauerland said.

    We can rule out light-heavy because of how much money and effort to make tournament take place. Apart from that cruiser-weight competition makes sense and is not hard to make. As for hevayweight, I can ssee this happen only if cruiser-weight part 2 can't get top choices.

    Light-heavyweight competition is becoming even more likely after Adonis Stevenson fought to a draw with Badou Jack. This result might spark Stevenson/Jack 2. But there is a pending mandatory for Stevenson as well.

    "Badou Jack really impressed me. It was structured, organized and disciplined. He knew what to do, his game plan was solid. He presented a level of boxing to Stevenson that I didn't believe that he was able to present," Michel told TVA Sports.

    "On the other side, it was fine for Adonis at the beginning of contest. I thought he won five of the first six rounds. But we felt after the sixth round that Adonis was helpless after being unable to get the knockout. It's as if Jack had said at the time: 'This is my fight.'

    Michel was not surprised by the outcome, because the fight was close. He had Stevenson winning by two rounds.

    "After the fight, I was very confident [that Stevenson had won]. I had the impression that Adonis had won by two points. I was convinced that he kept his belt. In the worst scenario that I had in mind, it was a draw and that's what happened," Michel said.

    Regarding a potential rematch that both fighters are demanding, things may get complicated in that respect, admits Michel.

    Prograis just confirmed that he is in. He also said Josh Taylor is likely to enter as well.
