Yes we do. But Smith just bullied the life outta Groves and no one, including Froch, has done that. Even if Groves has diminished in recent years - and it's clear he has - that was pretty impressive. 6'3'', probably 185llbs+ on fight night, and good power, he's going to be tough to beat...

Maybe, but almost all the other divisions are much more interesting to me.

"Take away the event, the WBSS etc"...... It wasn't an entertaining fight.

 

That's the big question mark on Smith, is his ability to remain effective for a full twelve and Groves knew that and said he would exploit that.

But I think his plan relied on making Smith take the front foot and over reach, boxing from range wasn't his strategy and when Smith kept on the back foot Groves wasn't really able to adapt the way he should do.

He spoke loads pre fight about taking the reach away and to an extent he did with his counter jabs, but he was too hittable from long range and those counter rights over his jab sent him into a frenzy that he couldn't control.

It's not like CEJ or Froch where for the most part he saw every punch coming and it's not like Jack where he was caught up in a gruelling war. It was a quality game plan by Smith because of the way Groves was fighting.

Groves had the speed and movement to jab his way to victory but I don't think it was ever part of his plan, he wanted to make Smith over reach, tag him with the right and punish him. Problem was Smith never really over reached.

 

You moment you start using your mod powers in personal manners is the moment you should lose them.

 

I don't think calling someone who looks several divisions above their opponent a weight bully is outlandish.
