It’s a common held opinion on boxing forums, the media and in print that the belts in men’s boxing are watered down and easy to get hold off, certainly in comparison to previous eras. They’ve definitely been watered down but they appear to be pretty hard to get hold of. The promoters in the UK and Matchroom USA rarely put on world championship fights these days and with several divisions having unified and some undisputed champions who aren’t coming over here unless Bob Arum says, getting British champions to challenge for alphabet belts, particularly at home, appears to have never been harder. In the 1990s, Warren and Moloney, with Don King and others, regularly put on multi championship cards in the early days of SkyPPV. Is it easy to win a WBC/WBA(Super)/WBO or IBF these days, I don’t think it is. If you’re a female of course, you win one and you get 3 free plus the BBC put you on their website as the greatest British fighter since Jack Kid Berg. Am I wrong, maybe, but using Josh Kelly as an example, with Charlo as undisputed king, unless he vacates, how long would he have to wait before Wasserman got him a shot ? Then it could beTim Tszyu in Australia or Brian Mendoza or Sebastian Fundora in America. It’s murder, right ?
