World Series of Boxing: The Way Amatuer Boxing Should Be

That LA hw was solid though, he threw some good leather in that one

memphis hw actually has talent but he needs to take advantage of his reach and range properly, develop a superior jab

 

I've had the priviledge of watching a couple cards, and enjoyed the hell out of them. These boys may be amatuers, but they ain't playin'!!

 

oh and thank the boxing gods for no ****ing headgear.

 

Just caught the recording of the Memphis-LA match. Here's a couple of quick notes so far:

Man, that Fowler kid's (the LA lightweight) a little ****ing bulldog. This is the 2nd time I've seen him fight and each time he just mugs the other guy. He could stand for some more upper body movement and he's not a clean finisher, but damn, his opponent knows he's been in a fight by the time it's over. Felps showed resolve by fighting back when he was hurt, but he was just dead on his feet and had nothing left in the tank. Not the easiest way to break into the WSB for the 18 year old, but he didn't cave mentally. Good stoppage.

Man, these middleweights are going to war now. Lamour's the bigger man and is getting the better of it early, but Jones is still landing big shots and won't go away. Jones looks better than the last time I saw him, but Lamour's still getting enough in to likely win the rounds. Lamour by close UD's the call, and that seems right to me. He started strong, Jones got a couple of the middle rounds, and the fifth round was close but edged by Lamour. Props to the judges for not screwing these fights up, either.

 

Charles' certainly looks the part, but his conditioning was horrible and it cost him the fight against the Mexico City HW last time out in a fight Charles really should've won. The altitude probably didn't help matters in that fight. Imoesiri is asking for a broken jaw the way he keeps his mouth open all the time.

Great right hands by Imoesiri in rounds 3 and 4. Charles fighting back though. Imoesiri going the John Ruiz route of one punch + octopus hold in round 4. Charles fighting better tonight- has Imoesiri stunned near the end of the fight but still probably needs the KO to win. Imoesiri wins a slim UD- seems like the right call to me. Charles is improving, and needs to continue that.

 

Next meeting is Jan 5. Miami vs Memphis.

I damn sure hope this isn't one of these 1 Year and Done Programs...THIS **** IS ****ING AWESOME!!! Hate that it's on Versus. If ESPN was smart....they should pick this up for next season. I am loving WSB!!!

That Thompson kid has a weird, weird ****ing style. I don't understand it. He fights properly in spurts and then derps out half the time. Hits hard, but he needs to stop dancing around so much and make his style more concise. In a 12 rounder I woulda picked Torres to win.
