I have to admit WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO, WBF.. and than u have all this silver and emeritus champion crap.... common !...... what is a title worth these days? it is obvious the best promoted and high profile fighter will get a shot and not the best fighter, UFC is booming because of boxing's paper thin titles that they share... 1 title 1 divison seems the best..titles mean nothing... and promoters and boxing organistions reap the rewards

Boxing will NEVER get back to the way it used to be. A world champion is not a world champion any more. The whole sport is full of corruption and bull****. It needs a world governing body like football or swimming to take control but that will never happen.

In MMA the UFC is doing a great job by trying to get the very best fighters under their organisation and once there the best do fight the best however there are rival organisations in MMA such as Strikeforce and Dream where a lot of the best fighters still fight.

In boxing nowadays the belts are worthless. If you are a top fighter you don't need a belt. The true boxing fans know who the best fighters are in each division and don't require any of the 4, 5 or 6 different organisations to tell them. If your a genuine fan of the sport you know that Danny Green is not the cruiserweight world champion and you also know that neither Green or Mundine have won world titles in 3 different divisions or whatever nonsense they reckon.

With kids brought up today playing and watching some many different sports the future for the sport of boxing does not look good. Also in countries such as Australia it's nearly impossible to follow the damn sport and it's not covered by media hardly at all and you need to be internet/computer literate to ****in watch it.

UFC pay they're fighters next to nothing and ty them up in contracts so they cannot fight anywhere else yet the UFC has become a billion dollar company.

If MMA is so good then why didn't the Lesner v Fedor fight happen?
Will we see Overeem fight this new guy (whats his name?) UFC Heavy Champ?

UFC are a Monopoly,is that what you want?

There is no such thing as 1 world champ in the modern world and it is a Pro Sport which can end a career very quickly.

The fact that guys like Lovemore and KT(vs Rodriguez) have won world titles is great.

Would they get that chance if there was only 1?

If you think it pisses the fans off, you ought to get a reaction from genuine contenders.
They are duck-shoved, robbed, & ignored & they have to take what they can get.
Boxing is no different from any other sport that is generating money. It's "entertainment"

Then we have traditionalists who denigrate these titles but perpetuate them because getting a good fighter is very hard & they can't use him to change things because of the haphazard authority that runs the game. (Promotors. TV etc.)

As I said in an earlier string (Will we ever wake up?)

We forget the meaning of "Game".
A few years back, in Rugby League, footballers would perform antics when they scored. The crowds loved it, but then the traditionalists moved in "It has to stop. It breaks their concentration". & the crowds continue to dwindle.

Khdar Nasser is the only one in our sport that understands the process.
He USES the titles. He knows how to USE them, not let them use him.

Boxing has got to get out of this myopic antiquated circle that they back-stab & squabble in. Until then, nothing will change accept it's dwindling popularity.

    Good post.

Boxing is very popular in Europe at the moment and they are making some big dollars out there and don't want a bar of UFC.

Maybe they dont want to be told what to do by the yanks anymore

Think of Charley Burley,it's said he was ducked for years and there was only one champ then.

Using the system is what it's all about and as long as we have Reps. (IBO,IBF,etc.) here in Aus. then thats our best shot.

I know of boxers who were mocked for boing WBF titles but they have got overseas experience and become better for it.

I think the best way to look at it, is to stop viewing boxing as a sport, but rather as a BUSINESS. There is no other sport I can think of at the top of my head whereby the best in their chosen professional can so blatantly get away with NOT facing the best. If you are not marketable, then you will get ignored, plain and simple. That's why UFC is doing such a great job of bringing such exciting cards by matching the top fighters in each division to face off against each other. Zsolt Erdi is probably the best example of this. This guy has been fighting chumps his entire career, has a 32-0 record and has been a "world champion" for about 7 years. But no-one would put him even in the Top 50 P4P list as he hasn't fought any of the top LHW's & refuses to fight out of his own backyard.

All this "5 time world champion" in "4 weight divisions" bull**** is simply extra marketing for a promoter's fighter. But in reality with so many organisations and corruption, this all means absolutely nothing.

If a fighter unifies all major titles, dominates a weight division then defends said titles numerous times, then surely he is the world champion of that division and I would hold that fighters achievement in much higher esteem than a fighter that flits between weight divisions, cherry picking titles.

    UFC are a Monopoly,agreed?

If so,do you think a governing Monopoly on Pro Boxing would benefit the sport worldwide?

The reality is that we will never see ALL the best fights made.
There are many fights that whilst thay are the best for fans are not the best fights money wise, meaning they COST money to put on.

    How could Boxing overcome this?
