You are an undefeated heavyweight champ and to unify the belts you have to face another undefeated champ which is either Mike Tyson or Joe Frazier. Which guy causes you the most concern and why?
Depends on my style. If I'm a stand up boxer, defensive specialist or a slickster I worry about Frazier. If i'm anything else I worry about Tyson.
What fighter then best describes a combination of ability to standup box and also slug when necessary...Holyfield perhaps? Who do you think then gives you the biggest trouble?
Mike Tyson. Just more intimidating and when he was undefeated everyone thought he was unbeatable, which would also not help my confidence
If I were fighting Tyson[god forbid] ,I would go for him at the press conference , try and slug him ,call him everything ,generally try and get his goat,he thrived on fear ,but I dont think he was immune to it himself. Frazier had bigger balls than Tyson ,if I was a hitter I would try and get him early as he was sometimes slow out of the blocks, win the early rounds ,try and take a breather mid fight ,and come on late if I was able.A boxer ? Jab him and hold him like you are his sweetie in close, tie up his left hand and lean all over him.Asking which one you would prefer is rather like saying ,do you want to be shot or knifed? I will go for Frazier.
Frazier. I mean Tyson was imtimidating, hit extremely hard and had great speed, very good chin, different to tag with that bob & weave movement, but I'm going on heart and stamina. If you could stand up to Tyson and show no fear, then you were half way there. If he sure you were intimidated he would thrive on that and jump on you, if you stood up to him I think he'd be a bit fearful himself. Frazier had a lot of heart, I don't think he'd be so easy to discourage and win a psychological battler against. Also he's relentless and works for 3 minutes of every round, you don't get away from him.
joe fraizer because he didn't have to yell and make stupid faces like you're trying to pinch a loaf in your pants to fear him ... joe would shake your hand ..politely tell you he was going to kick your ass ..then walk away .. lmao
exactly ..frazier could care less if he scared you or not ... he was going to beat your ass regaurdless lmao .. that's ****ing scary!
You know, I didn't know if anyone would agree with my pick of Joe Frazier. From the outside looking in, fighter's that took a shot at the title had different perspectives depending on who they fought. Larry Holmes holds the title for over seven years and yet guys line up to fight him. With all the early KO's and fear mongering about Tyson, a lot of fighters went in not thinking that they could win the title but hoping that they could stay upright for the distance, and many tried only to do just that. Once someone stood up to him his psyche was broken as Tyson lived off of his opponents fear. Frazier was one of the most well conditioned fighters ever and has no psyche to break. You have to kill the guy to get him away from you. He concerns me the most!
I agree. I don't pick a single stand up boxer over Frazier, and that includes a 67 Ali. 67 Ali and Prime Frazier is a toss up.
Frazier scares me more than Tyson, and like TommyV, my judgment is based on heart and stamina. Tyson was one of the hardest hitting heavyweights of all time, no question. His downfall is that he can be discouraged and the bully factor becomes a non-factor if one shows no fear against him. Watching the pressure, pace and endurance Frazier showed against Ali in the FOTC and the wicked body shots he landed makes me think twice about wanting to face him prime for prime, as opposed to Tyson. Frazier wasn't scared of nobody and he basically treated every fight like it was dinner, smiling hungrilly during the stare downs. He didn't show the same hunger against Foreman, instead playing the intimidation game, and got destroyed in two rounds while not exuding the same conditioning and drive that he showed against Ali. Foreman actually said he was seriously scared of Frazier at the staredown in Jamaica before the fight.
