The worst title reign, by far, was John Ruiz from 200-2003...he then won the WBA title again in 2003 when RJ vacated the belt and won a snoozer fight against Rahman. He held the title until 2005 with a loss to Valuev.

John Ruiz single-handedly destroyed the heavyweight division, with the help of Don King.

Ottke by far, but Hopkins' reign sucks big time make no mistake about it.

During Hopkins' reign, there were a lot of damn good fighters from 160 to 175 that Hopkins didn't fight (well he fought Jones and he lost). Just the fact that the best fighter he beat in his MW resume is Tito says it all.

Hopkins had a more legitamate reign.

Ottke has some decent names but should have lost to Brewer atleast once and Rob Reid.

Ottke didn't rob Johnson at all.

I thought that was a good win for Ottke. Johnson looked ponderous, Sven made him look bad.

First of all, I said 160 to 175. Just in case you are not aware, Hopkins started at 175 so all those fighters are within his fighting range. Jones and Toney all did their share of fighting a good portion of those fighters from 160 to 175.

    Toney
    McClellan
    Benn
    Eubank
    McCallum
    Nunn
    Jackson
    Calzaghe
    Reggie Johnson
    Tim Littles
    Steve Collins

But wait...he wiould have beaten all of them anyway..so what's the point, right?

Hopkins was a MW for most of his career. You can't say his reign was terrible because he didn't move up in weight. The guy had 20 successful defenses, cleaned out the division, and became the first man to unify all 4 belts. The MW division was relatively weak when Hopkins was there, but he still had an excellent title reign there.

That´s not about Calzaghe but about pugilist64 who just happens to be one of the biggest trolls on this board. And he´s a Joe C. nuthugger. So, I answer in every thread of his with "Joe Calzaghe".

Most of those fighters were at MW from early 90s so he did not necessarily have to move up.

20 title defenses means ****, it is purely statistics. I would go for fewer defenses against quality opponents. If the MW division sucks, then it is time to move to the next division where the competition lies. That's what great fighters do.

He is the 1st one to unfiy 4 belts is even shittier, it absolute has no bearing whatsoever. I guess in the coming years when we have WBF, WBU, IBU, IBA have a MW belt, the champ then will have more meaningful reign? Hagler held fewer belt but his reign was far better because of the level of oppositions.

Fact of the matter is that Hopkins is a pain in the butt when it comes to making the fight happen. How many times have we seen that? He turned down 8 mill and a chance to avenge his loss to Jones for a 350K against Hakkar. All the talks about fighting Toney all fell through. Tarver even has to agree to a parity with him just to make the fight happen (although Tarver was the champ and Hopkins was coming off 2 losses). So Hopkins' ****-weak resume at MW has primarily becuase of his own doing.
