If you think Eric "Butterbean" Esch is bad, just look at his son Brandon "The Bean" Esch, dreadful! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5UfzX8ZyOI[/ame]
Could you perhaps make some alowance for the fact that the cameras of the day were worse than one that I made in primary school out of a washing powder box? It took a better picture than many of that era.
Its funny how people boxed less effectivley in the period before the timing on film reflected the speed at which events were taking place. I guess you think that Charlie Chaplin actualy walked like that?
The worst boxer I ever saw was a guy named Ralph Ray Kelly who got a minor push on an ESPN undercard from the early 80's. He was a lumbering oaf who played for the Raiders, if I remember right. What I am sure I remember was his jumping off balance like a drunken ballet dancer every time he threw a punch and his constant staggering each time he was even hot with a jab. The worst part was the guy he was fighting- Smokin' Michael Perkins- who showed a thousand times more technique- was seemingly awed by this goof's size and flailing and rarely let his hands go and actually managed to lose a split decision. The best part of the whole fight- and my friends and I were having a hard time keeping a straight face in the first place- was when he was interviewed afterwards and started ranting "I want Larry Holmes! I can beat you, Holmes!"..... Look at the guy's record on BoxRec and you'll get the picture.
