First, I'll just laugh at your shock and the shock of anyone else who takes this inept commentator seriously. As a boxer in his heyday, sure, due to his power and strength. As an announcer, he has to be one of the most innaccurate I've ever heard. Foreman: Roy Jones did not expect to be getting this many times, and it's bothering him. Merchant: He's getting hit 6 times a round George! Foreman: ..................................... And just the plain simple. Foreman: The referee is gonna be the most important man in the ring tonight besides the two fighters.
I haven't seen the Versus braodcast's too many times but the guys they have to call the fights have got to be the most annoying bumbs in history...all they do is complain about this and complain about that. No wonder there is no causual fans in boxing. Cause when they are flipping channels and come to these guys all they hear is two annoying idiots complaining about how bad some guy is....again have only seen them acouple of times but wouldn't watch them again if i had too.
I like the Colonel. He's he can be critical without being annoyingly negative. He takes his time to explain some of the technical side of the sport. He's really positive and he doesn't get into the denagrating of certain fighters that most commentators get into. Frankly, I think that he's the prefect guy for a person who doesn't know much about the sport to commentate on a fight cause of the simple and positive way he does it. Personally, I'd rather listen to Lampley but the HBo crew does too much bitching my liking.
I know, I watch the versus broacast's pretty often and I seem to find these guys pretty funny, I was surprised the way tore into certain fighters that were fighting. I think it's nice to see announcers speak there mind and kinda express how the people at home are probably feeling as well, it's a change of pace from all the nuthugging that goes on at HBO and SHO.
The worst boxing pundit of all time is Bert Sugar. He doesn't even have Lennox in his top 15 heavyweights of all time list. Dickhead. Just coz he's old, has a croaky new york accent, smokes cigars and wears a fedora doesn't mean he's a wise old sage; he's a ****ing charlatan.
"Well Jim!!!!.....I have it 3 rounds to one!!!!!! He's just not getting his punches off and the ones that do land seem to have little to no effect" He's always so stoked to give the round by round... .....and that's refreshing......:good More often than not I agree with Lederman's round analysis.....probably ^ 90% of the time.....
Lewis is one of the worst, if not the worst announcer in boxing. Yea, I watched that fight and it was Vitaly's fight. If they fought again, it'd be Vitaly's match again. Vitaly had his number just like Golota had Bowe's number.
If not rating Lewis is his only "sin," that's hardly grounds to invalidate his opinions. Love or hate his shtick, Sugar is one of the most knowedgable boxing journalists around. Of course, on this site, if you don't overrate Lewis, like many do, you expose yourself to criticism of his fans.
As much as I can't stand Max Kellerman, which is a whole shitload. I have to go with Bert Sugar being the most offensive, bumbling, one sided, and as someone else wrote previously, CHARLATAN! This guy has hurt boxing just as much as the alphabet titles and the bad promoters. In fact he has probably done the sport worse than the promoters. At least the horrid promoters once in a while do put together a good card that makes the sport exciting. Even the extremely corrupt promoters like Don King, Gary Shaw and Bob Arum do put on good shows from time to time. Obviously not as often as they should, but at least they do. Sugar on the other hand has been able to be published in syndication around the country, and put on national television networks like ESPN. And what he has done with that exposure is promote only himself and his "stories" about how great Ali and Frazier were, and also how none of today's fighters measure up. He has helped turn off the mainstream sports fan from watching boxing with his "analysis". I truly think the man is a steaming pile of ****, and the sooner he is not giving out his supposed analysis, the better off boxing will be.
