We all have our favorite bad excuses. Haye's toe. Wilder's prefight outfit. Pacquiao's socks. Roy Jones claiming to lose on purpose. I'm sure you can think of others. But for your money, what's the absolute worst excuse ever made for a loss in boxing?
Former WW champion Andrew "Six Heads" Lewis, who retired in the 7th round against Denny Dalton... because he badly needed to go to the restroom! Ok, if you need to go, you need to go - so I'm not sure you could really call it a bad excuse. But it certainly was a bizarre way to give up!
Didn't Bert Cooper say something along the lines of Holy sending hookers and coke to his hotel room before the fight? I want that to be true.
It was before the Foreman fight and I think he blamed Archie Moore (or some other guy from that era who was working with Foreman).
Witherspoon got his tooth knocked out and was dropped three times in round one against Bonecrusher, thereby taking himself out of line for Tyson…Don King’s fault.
The Atlanta Falcons were in the superbowl: Robert Allen vs. Hopkins "I didn't even get knocked down!!!" Nate Campbell after dropping his hands showboating and getting knocked down, on ***** street and out by Robbie Peden
The Leonard-Hagler fight being scheduled for 12 rounds. Hagler-Hearns and Hagler-Mugabi were also schedule for 12. The most recent Hagler fight scheduled for 15 rounds was 2 1/2 years before he fought Leonard.
