Chavez came up with an excuse of getting injured on his kids toy when he lost De La Hoya or something like that.

well he blamed it on the kid, it was in a Ring article I read about 2 years ago.

I think he said something like he got the cut when his kid hit him with a rattle then in sparring the cut opened up again.

You are both right, Chavez was cut in sparring a couple of weeks prior to the fight. Two days before the bout Chavez's kid reopened the cut.

Rather than coming clean, Chavez fancied the pay day and knew stepping into the ring, the first punch he took on the injury would re open it.

I just remember staying up to six in the morning to catch that fight, and it was basically over in the first 30 seconds...

Wladamir Klitschko: excess vasaline caused his body to overheat and run out of energy OR of course his water bottle had been poisoned by Brewsters camp

I think Shannon Briggs blamed the cold for his shock defeat to Wilson, on the excellent 'Night of the Young Heavyweights'.
