I thought we were making a more general list rather than picking one.Suppose there wasn't much to back this up so I was more naming some examples, rather then nominating him as the worst ever.
    He was pretty **** though.

I was going to say Bruce Seldon, but he beat Tony Tucker for the vacant title.

I think Tony Tucker is at least the worst HW titleholder ever, I don't know about the other weight divisions.

Greg Page, Francesco Damiani, Tony Tubbs, Michael Bentt, Tommy Morrison, and Primo Canera were not the best either.

I don't want to write him off completely yet, but he was so far out of his depth against Rigo, it was embarrassing.

I actually thought TT was one of the better belt holders of that era and I remember thinking that he was the one who was capable of being a stylistic nightmare for Mike.I know he didn't pull it off but I thought before the fight that he was the one who would force Mike to answer previously unasked questions.
I know in hindsight it wasn't a great era but it was the first time I was able to really follow the HW scene and it was certainly more intriguing than it is now.
There was also a guy, think it was Eklund who at leat had a crack at Mike Spinks, not sure if he (Eklund, although I might be wrong about the name) got a vacant belt at some time.Don't think so but he was in the mix.
Please forgive my digression guys.Just got a bit carried away thinking about how exciting it was when Mike Tyson was just beginning to happen.:|

You are thinking of Steffen Tangstad from Norway. Two time European champion. He lost to Anders Eklund though, who lost to Damiani, Bruno and Witherspoon.

Luis Santana is bad but he actually had a lot of belts. It just stands out how he won his light middleweight title and defended it by getting knocked senseless and carried out of the ring both times, then Terry Norris got disqualified TWICE. Unbelievable.

Santana was my first thought. Anyone who watched his first successful title defence without facepalming isn't human.

Some of the lighter weight fighters linked in this thread take the biscuit though. They look like someone hacked boxrec and put a random world title win on some obscure fighters' record....

Not the worst, but I have no problem with anyone mentioning Leon Spinks.

Zbik, he got his title without a fight and lost it in the first defense against Chavez Jr
