    I wouldn't say it's being disrespectful.

It's not as if you are turning around and calling someone crap..... you are just saying that he might be one of the weaker fighters to win the British title.

I don't recall many people pulling me up when I said that I reckoned Kelly Pavlik was the worst linear MW champion since the pre-Hagler days, so I'm not going to pull anybody up for asking a question like this.

exactly. Its alright to rip world champs but not over-achievers on the domestic scene.

its a bit disrespectful this thread, i think anyone whos trained hard & taken their chance regardless of their ability is well worth their belt...

Is it disrectful? 25-30 years ago I wouldn't have even entertained the notion but today, it must be remembered, that due to politics and multiple World Champions, it is posible for some fighters who would have got nowhere near a British title fight to become British Champion. Also, it must be remembered, some divisions are so threadbare with domestic fighters that it was possible that Usman Ahmd could have become British champ...

No one is slagging of any boxer simpy by acknowledging that some are better than others.

fair point. personally i think its a shame that, for example, a boxer who has limited capabilities can gain an advantage over a very gifted boxer due to the fact that they can sell more tickets but i wouldnt begrudge him a win once he got his chance because he'll have earned it on the night & its not his fault hes got a big following compared to the fighter whos more gifted if you get me?

    money talks i guess...

It was idiots like you who disrespected the African Boxing Union title and the Nigerian title. The point I am making is that such titles should not be disrespected period. I make no apologies for that.

Any title that can be constatnly fought for by guys having their pro debut and even allows fighters with only loses on their records to fight for isn't worth wank... I know it, the World knows it and you know it...

Even Audley's WBF title was more credible than any ABU or Nigerian title and that was not even worth wiping your arse on.

great post. when you hear people talk about how british boxing became safer in the 90s they always reference the watson - eubank and benn - mcclellan fights. a lot of people forget that stone actually "died" in the ring.

obviously the thread wasn't intended to offend or disrespect anyone but I think its harsh to pick a name. barry morrisson for instance took on paul mccloskey last year and you have to give the guy respect for doing that...

there was good posts that referenced the FA cup and the fact that a lad in a factory can get a shot at this title and maybe win it

That's a good post but you could say the same about "world" titles. Ricky Burns still works in JJB sports.
