Who are the least distinguished heavyweights you'd pick to stop the 245-lb, 36-yo version of Willard who showed up to fight Dempsey after three and a half years of inactivity?

Not that you are making trouble or anything!

    Let’s play a game here.

Somebody makes a pick, and I challenge them to say when the equivalent of that happened, in the real physical universe.

If it has never happened before, they it is obviously a rather speculative pick!

    Razor Ruddock
    Ike Ibeabuchi
    David Tua

If by least distinguished, you mean heavyweights who never won the title or like in the cases of Ruddock and Ibeabuchi who both never even had a title fight, then those three would be my picks.

    Bonecrusher Smith.
    CORRIE sanders
    Ruddock
    Tua.
That's as low as I can go. These guys aren't necessarily bad fighters by a long shot, but there certainly not in any ones top ten. But I see em perhaps been lucky enough to score a early win over willard. Even then though, willard wasn't just going to fall over when hit once. What dempsey did was pretty impressive.

Well, Jess was 37 and basically inactive for 4 years, so he kinda fits the bill.

Kind of fits the bill, but not quite.

Cooney would probably find a way to lose.

All those guys were pretty good, I think much worse fighters could've beaten that version of Willard.

I would give the Norton that Cooney faced a good chance, too. Jess was not a fast starter and would not overwhelm Norton who was a much better boxer and athlete.

In fact, Jess fits the bill better than Norton or Lyle did.

    Cooney KO2
