Worst gameplan you've ever seen from an "elite" boxer?

If i remember correctly, it is basically impossible to make a Pavlik highlight reel of that fight. He accomplished absolutely nothing.

 

Ever see Foreman vs Young? Gil Clancy was trying to remold Foreman's style, make him pace himself so that he wouldn't gas like in the Ali fight. The earlier aggressive Foreman would have knocked Young's brains out by the second round. Instead, he loses a decision.

His gameplan was to take selfies with fans and have fun.

 

There was nothing wrong with srl plan, he was supposed to be fighting the smaller, slower and less skilled fighter.

Are you claiming he can't make adjustments like you're supposed if plan A isn't working ? He fought to win but got hurt early and couldn't impose his thought power, speed and atheltism advantages

 

So far off what everyone thought would happen at the time. He was trying to draw out Calzaghe by beating Hopkins. Don't think he won a round and absorbed heaps of punishment. Don't know if he was drinking at the time or not.

 

He got emotional and fought the way that catered to Duran. The second fight, he turned the tables and got in Duran's head. Moved, clowned around.

It was beautiful.

 

What are you talking about, Leonard himself has admitted Duran ballooned up to close to 200 lbs partying and they offered Duran an amount he couldn't refuse with just weeks to come down to weight.
That wasn't the same Duran in the rematch and Leonard himself has admitted it many times over.

 

Not trying to start anything but I don't believe that. If he had a real problem, he wouldn't of signed the contract. Some of his excuses after the fight were probably some of the worse I've ever heard like "I ate two hot steaks then dranked cold water". That was really an actual excuse he used. Not making this up.

That's just poor character and professionalism on his part all around.

Its common knowledge that Duran was partying it up celebrating his victory in Montreal when a take it or leave it offer of an amount of money he'd never come close to making was put on the table.
Leonard himself in many interviews has pointed out he instructed his manager Mike Trainer to offer Duran anything it took to get him in the ring as soon as possible knowing what he knew.
This is Leonard saying it not me. I'm sure its in one of the HBO legendary nights episodes that talk about the no mas fight.
Duran has never wanted to admit that he quit because he was out shape and deep in **** in the 2nd fight, which is why he's offered the excuse that he was cramping from something he ate.
The man just wasn't in nearly the shape he was in the first fight and he was feeling the effects of the poor shape he was in.

 

Oh he did, just an awful one. I remember Haye said in pre-fight interviews "We have cooked up a special surprise for Wlad if he tries to clinch and hug me". His gameplan was to flop to the floor like a little girl and try to get a DQ win. Didn't work, he was deducted a point for the flopping later. This really was one of the worst gameplans ever.

 

There's been many but one that stands out to me is Oscar vs Mosley in the first fight. Oscar thinking he could just walk at Mosley and KO him. And that was OK for the first 5-6 or so rounds, but Oscar didn't have a plan b. All oscar had to do was box him and the fight was his, but he went after shane and kept going at him. Made for entertaining fight but was ridiculous gameplan, esp without a backup plan.

 

The most horrible one I can remember is chávez vs canelo. Man, that was utter BS.

Appart from that, probably hearns vs hagler wasnt hearns' best plan ever, tbh.
