Then I would respectfully suggest that your opinion has not been verry well thought through in this case.

Even if we make the strongest presumption against the eras these guys fought in, there were clearly much weaker title challengers within those eras.

For example, could Jess Willard be argued to be a weaker title challenger than Frank Moran, either head to head or based on resume?

You can view Jack Morons loosing effort against Jess Willard.

Even if you think he looks great, you would have to factor in that Willard beat him.

    You think so?
i think the opposite, his fighting ability was better than his record, he got the Baer gig on the strenght of the Corn Griffin(never amounted to anything) win, John Henry Lewis(a light heavy) and a ballyhooed Art Lasky, himself in the middle of a 5 fight-without-a-win streak. Prior to that Braddock lost a lot more than he won at Heavyweight.

That streak enable Braddock into a title shot with Bear. There was not much out there before Louis got ranked. Baer has all ready beating most of the good white heavyweights outside of Jack Sharkey, before he lost to Braddock.

Cus knew Floyd wasn't really the World's Premier Heavy, & didn't want him exposed.
