These two were managed well. Coney and Reid got paid like hell. Neither were built to last given their mental health issues and, in Reid's case, ****py eyelid.

Winky Wright. I sincerely hope the guy has money considering what he left on the table.

Tim Austin. Could've been an atg. King wasted his career.

Speaking of King, lets tak about Tim Witherspoon when he took over him. Of course, with all fighters under contract to King, they were introduced to their new manager, Carl King. Not a conflict of interest there by any stretch of the imagination. Witherspoon ended up suing King over many aspects of the 'contract' with him. But what really came to light was the fact, as champion he defends his title against Frank Bruno and Bruno actually made more than the champion after King was done with his cut.

Didn't he end up losing his title to Chris John for something like $50,000 when there were mega-matches staring him in the face?

    He sure did.

The Norwood fight, which was his first chance in front of a big audience, was an awful fight and ended in an L for him too. That didn't help either. True, it was a chance at an alphabet belt, but that pretty much screwed up his reputation and any hype he had going.

iran barkley spoke about himself being badly managed....he talked about his 1989 fight of the year split decision loss to roberto duran..duran got over 7 million for his next fight vs leonard....whereas barkley also fought for a world title vs michael nunn next time out, but he says he got 6,000 dollars.....he ended his career penniless.
not sure if it fits into the bad management as its meant in this thread though, as on paper he got a lot of title shots and even coming of losses like in the nunn fight...and was a multiple world champion

During his great career, Charley Burley never fought at Madison Square Garden (New York City), the Polo Grounds (New York City), Yankee Stadium (New York City), Chicago Stadium (Chicago), Comiskey Park (Chicago), the Olympia (Detroit), Briggs Stadium (New York City), The Arena in Cleveland, Cleveland Memorial Stadium, Wrigley Field (Los Angeles), Gilmore Stadium (Los Angeles) and the Olympic Auditorium (Los Angeles). It is very possible that Burley never received a purse more than $4,500. or made more than $100,000. during his boxing career.

Under the circumstances, I can't understand how Ezzard Charles had worse management than Burley during his career. It may be the Charles' management made some mistakes, but he certainly was making a much better living in boxing than Burley. Charles did fight far too long after his losses to Rocky Marciano, but was that due to bad management?
