I cannot unsee Foreman-Lyle. If Lyle could KD young Foreman, Tyson could. Also, I see Tyson as too slippery to fall for those wild swings. On the other hand, old Foreman was a tank. Assuming his stamina wouldn't be an issue, he would seem fully capable of executing the fight plan Holyfield did against Tyson, except Foreman is much stronger and harder hitting. In their fight, Holyfield was able to manhandle Tyson in the clinches; in their fight, Foreman was able to manhandle Holyfield in the clinches. So this is the weird case where I think old Foreman could do what young Foreman might not have been able to.
How so? The Bowe of the first Holyfield was a nightmare. Tough, mean, scrappy, fast, powerful, strong, durable, skilled... there was no weakness there.
If Tubbs said Tyson was the strongest guy he fought that's a bit odd. Maybe he thought the interviewer was referring to punching power? Their fight didn't even last long and they didn't really engage with each other much in cliches for him to have a good impression. Smith was manhandling Tyson up close and had no trouble pushing him back when he wanted. So it's strange if Tubbs thinks Tyson was physically stronger than Smith because the footage suggests something else. Spinx had a very thin resume at HW. Holmes wasn't exactly a physically dominant guy and he fought an older, seemingly disinterested version. Cooney pretty much got thrashed and didn't offer much resistance. Like Tubbs, Spinx was steam rolled very quickly only lasting 90 seconds. It is impressive if Tucker thought that because we know Lennox Lewis wasn't a slouch. But to play devil's advocate, he fought a young Lewis before he became a fully fledged chonky super heavyweight. Lewis also fought a more tactical fight at mid/long range. Given Foreman's long arms, height, powerhouse stature, and the fact the similarly sized Smith and the smaller Hoylfield had no trouble roughing Tyson up and pushing him back, or the fact Foreman easily pushed back and outmaneuvered Frazier (who is of a similar height and reach but not as physically dominant) like a matador, along with other come forward aggressive guys like Norton, Chuvalo, Ledoux etc, I think it's a safe bet to assume Foreman could out wrestle and push back or maneuver Tyson around. You can even look at Lyle who was a jacked specimen that did lots of strength training and was very wary of Foremans strength once he got a taste of it. Tyson wasn't particularly difficult to clinch or outmuscle. He actually has a pretty bad track record in that department and Teddy Atlas (who is definitely biased but occasionally says something correctly) pointed out Tyson sometimes got befuddled when someone actually pushed Tyson back meeting him with resistance or would sometimes engage in "silent agreements" up close.
You don’t see the difference between Tyson and Frazier? Those descriptions no offence are very, unflattering and choice. You could say he was much, much more elusive, much, much more quick of hand, has top tier puncher and was the most dynamic counter puncher at HW. I think Mike would see those looping shots from behind George’s head in slow mo and punch his teeth into the back of his throat.
When Foreman fought Lyle how long had Foreman been inactive????? Plus he was coming off a devastating loss! And to compare anybody Tyson fought to Foreman is foolish especially the people he fought in 1980’s…… Tyson isn’t knocking Foreman out period!!!! Tyson would be scared and get bullied by Foreman. And I don’t care if it’s young Foreman or Old Foreman. Tyson would get destroyed.
Evander Holyfield and James Buster Douglas. Oops ! I forgot, Mike was no longer in his prime at 23, he let a Gold Digger like Robyn Givens and her mother Ruth Roper take advantage of him. You seen one thing, you seen them all. Lol.
Worst that actually happened, Douglas. Worst hypothetical? Liston, not only could he dismantle peekaboo style he would out-intimidate Tyson easily.
I disagree. He has to go inside Foreman’s wheelhouse to do this. Foreman was a master at manipulating opponents to where he wanted them and Tyson was surprisingly easy to be moved around the ring (see Holyfield 1). Throw in Foreman’s ram rod jab, awesome power, iron chin, huge strength and natural aggression and a smaller, weaker guy constantly walking up to him and I see George beating Tyson senseless. It might take more rounds than Frazier but the result will be the same I reckon. No worries if you see it different. It’s just opinions.
Yeah all opinions. I don’t see it anything like you, respectfully so. I just don’t think Foreman has the means of delivery to catch Mike or to take advantage the way Evander or Douglas did.
