Worst middleweights you'd pick to beat 2017 Golovkin?

So Danny Jacobs can border on the edge of beating GGG, and Canelo can muster a draw, but Monzon couldn't have any success with him? This is patently absurd. Are you serious? Were you even born during the 70's?

Well Jacobs and Canelo realistically both lost to Golovkin. So if we're going to talk about absurd judges decisions then yes anything can happen.

Stylistically Monzon would struggle against Golovkin as he's going to meet him head on, he isn't going to dance away like those two did. I don't think anyone can meet Golovkin head on and win. I didn't say Monzon couldn't have success, I said I struggle to see him having success. For me Golovkin hits harder, has a better chin and a better jab so the way Monzon fights isn't the way I would expect Golovkin to be beaten.

    Yes I am serious.

    No I wasn't born in the 70s.

The thing is I do believe Golovkin could be outgunned, if you stay close to him and war it out with him on the inside it's possible. He's not the best inside fighter, Canelo showed this on Saturday.

The way Hagler fought Mugabi would be successful IMO, overwhelm him with hooks and uppercuts to the body and head.

    Definitely could happen.
You're right, Golovkin doesn't seem to like the inside much. In terms of distance, his pressure stops at the pocket. Not a presser.

Monroe Jr. on a good night gives him hell like Mayweather, Trout and Lara before him.

It always puzzles me how some fighters can't fight on the inside as throwing crisp hooks and uppercuts comes so easily for me, it just feels completely natural.

Monzon would not come to GGG. Monzon would use his great jab and right hand from long range. Then attack once he had his opponent in trouble.

And? The slow-footed Canelo's elusiveness is somewhat underrated but Golovkin made him look like a damn matador at times!

I don't think GGG has slipped that far. I'd say a fair few could potentially beat him on a given night. But who would I actually pick? I don't like to think of it as 'worst,' as I think it may need to be a very good man indeed. Maybe a Graziano or a Les Darcy.

Watch an old Monzon beating Valdes. Twice. Would look similar to how he would fight Golovkin I think. I also think Valdes was about the same quality of fighter as Golovkin.

I've watched all of his filmed fights. He gets a lot of undue criticisim stylistically imo.

I rate Golovkin levels above Valdez tbh.

What undue criticism does Monzon get stylistically?

Could it be down to the fact that GGG's fought better opposition in his last 3 fights why he hasn't looked quite so good??

You can call Canelo slow-footed but he was quicker than the 35 year old Golovkin in the ring. And he wasn't just using his feet, he was turning his head. I don't think those are particular bad, given Golvokin was coming forward against an opponent who was waiting on the ropes, not even looking to counter so much as get the hell out of dodge.

I think Canelo's look a tad worse given he's trying to catch a fighter coming to him, and grabbing air with wide swings. And Canelo missed with almost the same frequency as Golovkin despite throwing so few punches.
