Who would you say is the worst world champion who held a legit top level world title?

I took out heavyweight because to be honest I felt they would dominate the list. For Heavyweights I would love to hear I would say "The Ambling Alp" Primo Canera for me at heavyweight. Any lower I honestly have no idea.

Two names come up...Jorge Vaca, winner by that "technical decision" over LLoyd Honeyghan and as far as I'm concerned, his doppelganger, Luis Santana, winner of not one, but TWO dq's over Terry Norris....two of the luckiest guys in the history of boxing without a doubt.

Primo Carnera gets insulted a lot but he had some legit wins over top fighters. Tommy Loughran, the great light heavy, is a Hall of Famer. And Carnera legitimately outpointed him in a title defense over 15 rounds.

Granted, the size difference was the key factor, but Carnera did it. And Primo beat him soundly.

I'd say Billy Backus was the worst. Luis Santana was also awful. But I don't know if Terry Norris was the lineal champ at the time.

Primo gets a lot of flak I think its because of all the mob connections and the era still being riddled with fight fixing casting a negative light on his victories. It's best to judge what he did after he won the World title I always fought when he fell out of favour with the mob. You think Ingemar Johansson was worse?

I always thought I knew boxing pretty well but I have not even heard of these other guys haha.

Nowhere near it in terms of his peak, but last year's Martinez was pedestrian.

Luis Santana -- "won" the World Boxing Council Super Welterweight Title and then retained it, both by highly questionable DQs vs. Terry Norris.

Juan Coggi was a good champion in his first reign, but boy did he pull a Santana in his rematch with Frankie Randall. After a head butt, Juan clearly faked being injured, was taken out on a stretcher ala Santana v. Norris, and got a TD. Fortunately, Randall got a rematch in Argentina an regained the title.

I think this is the "winner". This guy pulled this BS twice and it worked for him.

I hate to agree with Zakman on anything, as I think he is a POS and is the biggest wussie to ever post on ESB.
