More like 6-7 too late. Hurtado should have recieved a standing count he was held up by the ropes. Emile Griffith-Benny Paret Hatton-Lazcano Hatton-Tszyu
I'm a kid so I don't have much experience to go off of but the worst that comes to my mind is that Andy Lee fight on ESPN. I thought that was a bull**** stoppage
I'm not really sure what Byrd was doing. He gets knocked silly and starts drooling, then complains to the ref that it wasn't a knockdown. He falls down again and continues complaining to the ref. He gets trapped on the ropes and instead of paying full attention to the punches coming at him, looks to the ref and gets clocked some more. Was he so badly ****ed up that he didn't know what was really going on and what he was doing and just wanted to complain?
Just watch some of the links provided on this thread for awful ref jobs. Coggi-Gonzalez, Ottke-Reid, Duran-Moore, etc..
The compairison had to be made for the fight in question. Hopkins' "holding and hitting" was more apparent than normal in the Calzaghe fight and Joe Cortez didn't bother to do anything about it, unlike the May/Hatton fight. No warnings, no pushing them apart, etc. Cortez was pushing May and Hatton apart even before there was a clinch/hold for at least the first three or four rounds, constantly talking to Hatton. It was like he was anticipating it might happen and he was taking it into his own hands to prevent it. While some might think ths is a good thing this is not the referee's job to do, guess what fighter will do what and stop him from doing it. After just losing to Paquiao I don't believe Hatton even deserves another fight with May but no matter what I would not accept Cortez as a ref for any future fight if I was camp Hatton.
Eddie Cotton!:verysad His fight with Taylor\Chavez was just flat out dumb IMO...He could have at least let the man reach make it to the bell before he stopped the fight.atsch
The referees in the following disgraceful performances:1.Tsyzu-Hatton.2.Rogan-Sexton.3.Barrera-Khan.Oh,wait a minute. It was the same nincompoop:the infamous DAVE PARRISS.
What you must always keep in mind is that many of these referees are corrupt. Joe Cortez is the most blatantly obvious in recent times, but throughout history, boxing officials have been told how to officiate beforehand. It's quite stunning that in these times of worldwide televised fights, referees and judges continue to show such blatant corruption, perhaps none more so than both Pacquiao Marquez fights
First off,it was Hatton's camp that agreed to Cortez in the first place.Secondly,Hatton's manager was heartily requesting to Cortez that Hatton be allowed to "fight his fight" in the dressing room before the fight, thereby bringing a ton of attention to Hatton's usual dirty tactics. What I find troubling is that Hatton's supporters have a gripe with a less than stellar performance of Cortez in the Mayweather fight but are completely fine with the 100% horrible performance of Dave Parriss in the Tsyzu fight.Shame,shame,mateys.
The drooling was crazy. Byrd was hurt worse than Ruddock was, who didn't even go down on the end of three flush shots. Steele ****ed it up big time, what was he thinking intervening mid combination. Idiot. It's always the big name referees that get all the action that make the most mistakes. Kenny Bayless never would have done that ****, and that's why Bayless needs to be getting more assignments these days. At least he is doing Cotto vs Pacquiao - the biggest fight of the year.
Nice thread...Now to counter your thread...I am going to submit a thread: "Who are the Best Refs in the Sport"
And Warren's man Parriss is any better than Cortez? However, you want corruption?Just look at any situation involving Don King supported people in the 70s,80s and early 90s.
Indeed. Money talks, money walks. God knows what happens with all these so called investigations. I suppose those doing the investigating are paid off themselves We follow a very corrupt sport, in the words of Regina Spektor, "and it breaks my hea-h-h-hea-h-h-hea-h-h-h-h-h heart" :-(
