It's their lively hood. McCauley is local to me and a sound lad. Takes fights at days or hours notice giving up weight. The fact his only been stopped 11 times is 185 fights says alot about the character of the man. And he certainly makes it tough for novices pro's learning the trade up and down the country. Their are few more like him Kris laight Matt seawright Dan Blackwell to name a few who deserve alot of respect.
The 1st one hasn't fought since 2013, so I think we can discard him from any contemporary discussion. The 2nd guy has 2 wins and a draw in his last 10. Not totally hopeless then?
How much would you guess yer man is picking up per fight? Quick once through count had him fighting 32 times in 2017. £500 per match would be £16k. I'm sure it's not as much as that but even it was half then he's getting paid £8k to stay fit and do something he loves. Any of us should be as lucky. He's hardly in 12 round slug fests is he?
Don' know exact figures but have heard the later the notice better the purse. Think min 500 and heard up to 1200. Most of the fighters also work so it' all extra. Most fights will b 4 rounders with the odd 6 rounder.
RIP Billy Smith! I remember Billy and his brother Ernie, 2 very tough guys that both knew their job as journeymen but could give the best a good workout. Such a tragedy that both brothers took their own lives at such young ages. Kevin McCauley is another true journeyman that can turn it on and beta good prospects when they want to just like William Warburton. Both talented fighters that if they had chosen to go down the road of selling tickets could have been British level but as we all know if you win too much as a journeyman you don't get fights so it is easier to get beat on points and pick up a wage on a regular basis. The sad fact is that most of the journeymen earn way more then most professionals carving out a career in the ring.
I personally haven't heard of anyone getting £500 from a purse? Usual rate for 6x2 or 4x3 is around £1000 for a journeyman. They do have manager and coach to pay from that but still don't think it would end up £500.

Really sad to learn that Some of these fighters actually do save some shows at short notice The sport needs them I
