I'm sure now someone will come here and defend the ref. "The ref did the right thing, the boxer throws many shots and his opponent couldn't respond, the ref saved his life" bla bla bla. There are very interesting people living in this world.

The referee for the Reid Ottke match Roger Tilleman. It has to be seen to be believed. My mum came down to tell me to stop shouting at the T.V.

 

I'm not a huge Calzaghe hater but the Sheika and Manfredo stoppages were particularly bad, it's a general problem with refs not letting the fight come to its natural conclusion, obviously fighter safety is paramount but it's swung too far the other way from the era of Ruby Goldstein and company. Wardley-Coffie was another egregious one recently. Foreman-Lyle would've been waved off at the end of Round 4 with these modern refs, I particularly like Steve Smoger for the way he handled stoppages in the modern era.
