Worst Resume Prior to Heavyweight Title Shot?

To name a recent example, Pianeta was an exceptionally unworthy title challenger. The only thing he'd accomplished was defeating ancients like McCall and Botha whose best days were in the 90s.

But obviously there are worse examples if you also include paper title championships like the WBA regular title.

 

Jesse Fergeson was 19-9 when he fought R Bowe

also he had lost 8 of his last 13 fights

beating Ray Mercer who was 20-1 who was scheduled to fight Bowe next was his "ticket" to fight for the championship

thats prob one of the worst resumes to be fighting a guy that just won the undisputed titles
