fenech,vs nelson 1,i was in the local r.s.l,when it was on,cans were hitting the t.v when the decsion was announced, still pisses me off,
Just watched Jones' Olympic Final in Seoul again. What an absolute disgrace. The IOC should have overturned that decision immediately. It annoys me that they still haven't done it 19 years later. The suspension of the three judges shows that they agree that the decision was wrong but Jones still has the silver medal. Unbelievable. Maybe all fans of boxing should start a new petition to the IOC in the hope of getting Jones his gold medal.
Anyone that thinks David Diaz CLEARLY "beat" Erik Morales, doesn't deserve to watch boxing for the rest of their entire life. Do yourself a favor and stop watching a sport you will never understand.
I have spent many afternoons hoping that tonight someone will end Ottke, but it never happened. Very often the decisions were close and they always went to the German. I do not remember the Reid fight and I am not sure that I saw it, but all fights was almost alike. The thing is when I saw replays I in fact had to admit that Ottke was pretty slick and that he was VERY hard to get with a clean shot. On these Forums Ottke is made out to be a fraud, which I do not think is fair. But his style was sooo Boooooring that he of course always will be unpopular. But he always made his opponents look like beginners because Ottke was very very quick on his feet. Recently we had Pavlik - Taylor and after 7 rounds Taylor was ahead on ALL 3 scorecards, that is worse than what I have seen in any Ottke fight, and had the fight gone the distance I think that we would have a new contender for the title of robbery of the year.
Yep, Reid knocked down Ottke, should have been 8-10 round, then Tillerman deducted a point from Reid for nothing. 10-8, four point swing. Reid won at least three or four of the early rounds very clearly from what I remember. Should have been WBA/IBF champ. Anyone know if the fight is up on the web, youtube etc?
Yes I saw the fight, and out side of cuffed punches, Ried was doing just fine till he changed his stratagy in the 8th. Yep Ottka was down....don't have it on tape....could well have been a cuffed punch. I did see the fight....I've seen most of Ottka's fights....and like dirty sour tasting French wine, Ottka is an aquired taste.... Had Reid not changed his stratagy, he'd won, but he did.....in the 8th round. I liked the Thorton fight my self, both Ottka and Thorton agreed, that had the fight taken place in the States were ring generalship and jabs are not counted much, Thorton would have won, ....in the States aggression is over rated..........in Europe jabs do count. Cuffed punches don't count.:yikes :admin I do hope you now know that cuffed punches don't count on the point card......I have repeated it enough times. It is an illegal punch....illegal punches don't count. Ottka the body ram, Ottka's wild right that always missed, and hit the guy in the left shoulder. Except in his last fight were he was going for a KO, that he didn't get, suddenly that right was hitting face and not shoulder.....it was such a shock. Ottka's main trick was he was going for the distance....and clobbered the jab and hook shoulder all night long, so in the last 1/3 of the fight, he'd taken something off that man's left arm, dropping it.... Ottka only fought one left hander, and that was a tight fight, becasue he couldn't shoulder punch and ram. I immagne all the Reid fans are English....I am an American who lives in Germany, and see mostly German fights live....once in a while, I luck out and get old delayed fights....I do like the infighting of England, where it is allowed. Every nation has it's own rose colored glasses..... But Calzughi might lose points in the Kessler fight for Cuffed Punches if they got a good ref, on acount of that is what Calzughi does a hell of a lot...always has....
Gotta see Escalera/Everett, Sue. With the exception of Jones in the Olympics, and possibly Whitaker/Ramirez I, it's by far and away the worst decision that I've ever seen. Just horrible.
Excellent memory dude. I forgot how Axel got robbed vs. Forman. Schultz won the HW championship that night IMO.
Every time this subject comes up, fools list fights that aren't even robberies. Here are some REAL robberies. Escalera-Everett Fenech-Nelson I Lewis-Holyfield I
absolutely no doubt, OTTKE versus REID is the most shameful robbery I've ever seen. Everything that is ****ed up about boxing was in that fight. you aint seen **** til you see that. Reid was runing away with the fight, won the first 6 rounds with ease. except he was being CONSTANTLY and I mean constantly being harassed by the referee. In one round Reid put Ottke on his arse, but the stupid bloated walrus referee docked REID a point for something I to this day cannot figure out. At one point the ref warned Reid for landing a solid right hand. After that Reid pretty much gave up, everytime he tried to attack he risked getting disqualified. Even though, Ottke did nothing apart from steal a couple of rounds at the end, 2 or 3 at best, yet he won by a landslide. On neutral ground Reid would've taken Ottke out that night. He was outclassing him through and through. But Ottke got the decision and reid got robbed. Nothing else comes close in my opinion, i am still outraged TO THIS VERY DAY about it. There was an Emmanuel Augustus fight, Courtney Burton was it, where Emmanuell got robbed badly too. That was close. Other than that, just the usual suspects. ODH - Sturm, Lewis - Holyfield, few Ruiz fights and a few Byrd fights. Nothing is as bad as the Ottke Reid fight, you have to see it to believe it.
