I think the best pros on the record would be Balbi and Zoff. A couple of solid if unspectacular guys, with brief stints as "world" champions to their name.

 

I'm guessing the real Eddie Hearn would be a bit more diplomatic.

 

maybe left of topic this....if i can add european defences to this....have a look at george carpentier's record....i do know, and it's been emphasised here over the years, boxrec cannot always be relied on to have correct records on some boxers.

an example...IF boxrec is right..and i can't find any into to dispute the boxrec record for this man...

he had his pro debut in 1914 and lost by first round ko
he had his second pro fight in 1920 which he won by 5th round tko against a man who had won just 2 of his 9 pro bouts
then, 10 days later he fought carpentier.

i cant find any amateur record for him.

i have read a lot about some of carpentiers fights being fixed, battling siki told anyone that would listen that theirs was...would that explain this one too?...would boxing fans at the time not object to someone like grundhoven fighting for a prestigious title like that ?

 

Yes, Carpentier was given 'help' and Siki refused to play ball. However, he did have some genuinely good victories and you must remember, some of the older records will be incomplete.

All-in-all, a good rather than very good fighter IMO. But a powerful right hand.

Strange, but was really expecting something more from this guy in 2004, after he widely outpointed Julio Gonzalez for the title, Gonzalez being the "man" who had beaten the "man" (Dariusz Michalczewski). Erdei just didn't really go anywhere with his reign.

Hasn't lost since then, just never really stepped up and tried to become a major player. I can't remember what happened after Barashian, but I guess he was stripped of the title for inactivity or something. He then beat Fragomeni for the WBC CW title, but just two non-title fights after that, one against Samson Onyango and the other a stoppage against a by then ancient Byron Mitchell.

A strange one, Erdei. I take it inactivity, over-protectiveness from the fighter/promoter, injury and/or contract disputes took their toll on his career. 37 years old now, and still got a perfect 33-0 record.

Maybe someone else can fill in the blanks here.

 

If we're going to try and look for the worst run of distances someone may aswell make a case to defend them. I must admit, for a 'World title' holder it still does look reasonably poor even looking at that.

Zoff, Balbi, Rios, Clark, Pitalua and Casamonica were reasonable defences, the rest are a lot harder to justify.
