Worst stoppage ever

How can a fight be stopped if no punches land? First he did 10 count like he was on speed, then he bear hugs him and tries to pin him to the ropes to stop the fight

 

**** and strange stoppage. There would have been less of an outcry if he stopped it after the knock down, why let it go on if you where going to stop it as soon as Bomber got close to Ovill. Either way I am certain that Bomber was about to stop him.

That can be said about Smith v Degale but not this fight.

Bellew might have won anyway, he might not have. With his sloppy technique it certainly wasnt a foregone conclusion.

 

It was pretty darn bad i was really looking forward to the next minute or so of that.

 

Absoloute joke of a stoppage, just seen it on youtube. Why did he let him up if he was gonna call it off imediately? Ridiculous. Shame for Ovill, prizefigher tournament again me thinks.

 

The referee didnt give Ovil a fair chance to finish the round - he looked strong on his feet and there were only seconds remaining - he would never have stopped it if it has been the other way around. It really shames the sport and will always continue.

The sad thing is that Ovil will not get any good fights after this - he will be even more avoided.

Really don't think Ovill would have got stopped there. He was very quick on his feet in retreat and his feet looked steady. Ridiculous reffing.

 

It was a mistake pure and simple really, Ovill didn't put his hands up properly after the knockdown when the ref asked and then when Tony ran at him he dropped his hands completely! Ref **** himself and there you go.

I do think Bellew would have got the stoppage in the next round.

 

It looked a bull**** stoppage from where I was sitting in the arena, and this thread seems to confirm it. Why did the ref let Ovill continue only to immediately stop the fight after Bellew ran at him? It was comical. Why was Bellew not stopped after his heavy knockdown??

 

Exactly. It was a heavy knockdown and you could make a case for stopping it then but what had happened in between the KD and the stoppage to change the refs mind about stopping it?

the ref stopped it because ovil didnt cover himself when bellew ran at him , ref thought ovil was ****ed but he was fine..

 

I thought it was an awful fight... terrible stoppage too. Tony seems like a nice dude, but he's painfully limited.

**** decision by the ref to stop the fight, Ovil looked fine and Bellow didn't land another punch. A shame for all the fans who payed thier money, but an even bigger shame for Ovil who could have still gone to win.
