Perhaps I contradicted myself, but I never argued the decision. Keyword being "argued". Not to go off topic, but it's puzzled me why Rafael Marquez gets such a high rating as a result of back to back losses.
totally agree! the last round is on youtube and it is one of the most brutal kos ever, but for the wrong reasons
Yep. Thats what I'm talking about.:good Once the count has got to 5 or 6 and the boxer still hasn't moved and is still spreadeagled on his back what the **** is he expecting to happen that will mean he will allow the fight to continue?
It's the same referee who did the Gatti/Rodriguez fight. I think a lot of other referee's would have stopped that fight when Gatti was getting doubled over.
Wayne Kelly. Kelly let Gatti get away with a ton of low blows before finally taking a point away. Kelly also let Roy Jones almost kill Richard Hall.
I suppose it's on the basis of his performances. It's a tricky question. What's better in p4p terms - a good performance in a close loss to a high p4p ranked fighter, or a good performance in a win against a non top 10 ranked p4p fighter? There's so many grey areas with p4p, there really is no definitive right answer (though there are definitely many wrong ones - one which I'm sure you will appreciate is from Nallege's list, which he posted a few days ago... he had JMM at number 7 or so, behind Arthur Abraham and Chad Dawson!)
Maybe he's thinking in the back of his mind that the dude is faking and will spring to life at any second. :yep
I have not seen Nallege's list but that is absolutely ridiculous. I think when Marquez lost the SD in his second fight with Manny Pacquiao, he should have stayed in the top half of the P4P list. In contrast, Rafael Marquez is now coming off two defeats, and irrespective of who defeated him, he hasn't won a fight since 2007. Not acceptable for me to list him among the top 10 fighters in the world whilst fighters like Lopez and Williams are winning and in fine style. Like you say, there are grey area's when it comes to the so-called P4P list.
IMO it would have been absurd to demote Marquez even one position for losing the second Pacquiao fight. I believe he won the fight by one point. His performance against the p4p#1 was superb. Sometimes a loss is not really a loss.
Absolutely. Rafael Marquez is a different case altogether. He was stopped in his second fight with Vasquez, and almost stopped again in their rubber match. Juan Manuel Lopez is still perceived to be on the verge of greatness, but he has already achieved that. He is a World Champion, and stopping all of these world caliber fighters in the 1st round. He makes my list. I want to see Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao III.
Now that Joe Calzaghe has retired and there is no chance of Hopkins-Calzaghe II, Pac-Marquez III is the fight I want more than any other. At 135, it is the very definition of 50-50. Above 135, Pac wins IMO.
I'm not sure what the worst stoppage ever is..... But Buddy McGirt will have been involved somewhere.
