The one thing I like about Kellerman is he isn't afraid to speak his mind to the fighters. If he thinks something is BS or somebody should be fighting someone else he'll straight up ask them. No pandering. Scoring was shocking at times, can't believe one of the rounds they gave to Berto he threw about 2 jabs in it. They were pretty desperate to see the golden boy win but even they had to give up the ghost after that beatdown.
Yeah I agree Steward is usually good. I can't forget Bunce's rant against him but I like Max Kellerman. He always says what he thinks and he's quite open with his and other people's opinions. Agreed.
I prefer HBO to sky. I watched the berto fight from HBO earlier today and merchant wasn't on great form but Steward boasting about training eminem was a bit of a cringe and his constant reminders about him having watched amateur berto every 5 seconds was annoying. Lampley, Roy and Kellerman (sometimes) look to be my new first choice.
Even though I'm not big on Ortiz at all, I'm kinda glad Berto got knocked off his perch. It's amazing how he was able to win a title in probably the deepest division in boxing, hold it for well over two years and fight absolutely nobody..... and make bucketloads of cash in the meantime. Usually the two don't go hand in hand.
And what about Dudey and his trainer's postfight interview? Having the audacity to demand a rematch after 6 rounds of doing **** all, claiming Khan was tiring, he's not that good, they would have had him, etc. Is that not anymore classless than than Roach or Khan for being under the same impression as the American commentators and a lot of viewers, who picked on McCloskey being unsure about continuing?
SKY is **** with there Box Office also. It makes me sick watching Sky Sports boxing and getting advertisment in between every single round. Even worse the MOFOS at Sky do that on Per Per View boxing also. There is one more reason i hate Sky because these ****s restricted my SKY BET account due to me Wining to much £ from them. I am counted as none profitable customer, Sky you can go fack your self
No his "full blooded" phrase and negative attitude to his non favoured fighter ruins every fight. Would love to see "dudey's" homecoming parade .
I did watch Berto vs Ortiz and Juanma vs Solido on my split screen, i was watching 2 fights at the same time, I have to say Berto vs Ortiz fight defo candidate FOTY I also enjoyed Juanma fight and made a not bad proffit of £700 on Solido 7/1
There really is a lot of ignorance about McCloskey's style. He has a low punch output, anyone that has been to his fights know that. He was never going to beat Khan on points. Most educated punters agreed that if McCloskey could forge his way into the second half of the fight then this was his territory to press Khan and attempt a stoppage. I am not saying this would have been a natural conclusion, but it would have been very interesting to see what might have been. Khan was saying stuff like 'listen to the champ'....blah blah...showing no respect to his opponent whatsoever, saying that McCloskey quit etc. Throughout all of this, I have been very critical of his team as they are a bunch of amateurs and are very bad for the sport. But, really, that post-fight interview of Khan completely makes me review my opinion of Khan - the person. His head is so far up his hole, he has no humility or class. I am glad is back off to America, he and his team will not be missed.
I still don't get that 'McCloskey was going to try and win in the second half of the fight' theory. Why? He's not Marcos Maidana or even Juan Diaz, or Michael Katsidis. It sounds like something that would be said about a pressure fighter that would struggle to overcome Khan's handspeed and movement (not that he had any of this last night) early on but would walk through him and eventually catch up with him when the pace slows. Thats a common formula for pressure fighter/boxer. But McCloskey is a counterpuncher mostly, he's more of an unorthodox boxer than anything. I don't see anything in him that suggested he was going to do anything other than become more and more desperate, or perhaps just defend himself even more to see the final bell. He wasn't anywhere close to working his way into the fight as a pressure fighter would be. He was waiting for opportunities that weren't presenting themselves due to his static nature. Pressure fighters can also tire their opponent without punching by keeping them under constant scrutiny/stalking but McC wasn't doing that at all so this idea Khan was tired sounds a bit far fetched to me and seems based off a few images of him in the corner. If that meant everything then vitali Klitschko would be nearly dead in the coming rounds when you see him in the corner blowing out of his arse. Khan was under no pressure and is generally a decent 12 round fighter.
You're right TFFP in that it wasn't that kind of fight. The only chance McCloskey would have had is that perhaps Khan would have got a little desperate to impress more and Paul might have been able to catch him coming in recklessly. But that's pure speculation and at least 9 times out of 10 had it carried on, Khan would have finished with a shutout or stoppage.
What was so bad about it? Did you expect them to say, well done Amir - you proved you are a P4P fighter ......
