No It was a little joke at my own expense. As in "Janitor demands his money back if it dose not go 45 rounds".
Was sure people felt at the time Jackson Corbett to be one of the greatness battles to ever take place, Even today that fight is well into myth and song. Anything with Ruiz is pretty bad imo.
No; Jackson/Corbett was panned at the time, very few fans managed to either stay or stay awake until the bitter end. Both fighters gave each other far too much respect and basically posed for many of the 61 rounds; barely throwing a punch. (This comes from an account in (the rather excellent) "Unforgiveable Blackness")
Not a world title fight, but the last british heavyweight title bout between sprott and matt skelton was ****ing shocking, and to think warren "promised" the winner a world title fight haha, not in this decade im sure.
This fight has been burned into my memory for all the wrong reasons. It should've been stopped to save the viewers from further punishment. Johnny ought to have had his purse witheld, his licence revoked and prosecuted for crimes against humanity.
Actually this fight wasnt that bad. Tyson showed a lot of skill especially in the early rounds. Smith held like a *****, but it didn't get bad until the second half.
It may have been a short fight, but surely you're not saying it was dull? What an opening round. :smoke
Baer-Braddock is the worst fight I've ever seen. After watching it, I came to the conclusion that I wasted 45 minutes of my life. Baer was terrible, Braddock was less bad, but still nothing to sneeze at. It was sloppy, slow-paced, and without even so much as a knockdown to show for it. I fell asleep about 3-4 times trying to sit through the whole thing. But I kept willing myself, "It's Baer-Braddock, one of the greatest upsets of all-time. It's historic. I have to watch it!" But it was hard.:yep
