Would £5,000,000 be enough to coax Calzaghe out of retirement?

Calzaghe has one thing Carl never had, and thats elite movement. Calzaghe has been out a little bit to long now and if he was ever going to come back he would of done a few years ago. There was nothing left for Calzaghe to prove at the time he retired, and if you ask me it was a wise choice to retire undefeated and more importantly undamaged.

Can I just say aswell, that when Joe retired, Froch was nowhere near where he is now. Fair play to Carl, but at the time back then, that would of been a considerable step back for Joe. Probably worse than Froch fighting Groves now. I dare say Groves is ranked higher now than what Froch was back then. If former elite fighters should come back everytime a fighter proves them self, then we'd have numerous fighters getting back in the ring!

Its not like that though is it?

Carl took of when Joe left the sport. That's boxing.

Money does talk though and if they offered Joe that guaranteed, he'd soon be back in the gym getting himself sharpened. Joe and Enzo both know they beat Froch, even now and back then. Joe would overwhelm and make Carl miss, regardless of the time out. Ward is another question though and IMO that would be a step to far and Ward would win that fight.

I would personally like to see Joe come back for one more, sooner rather than later. Come back fight Froch, shut him up, go back into retirement.

What a win that would be for Joe. Probably his best ever. Because he'd be coming back to fight the flavor of the month on top of his game. Like when Sugar Ray Leonard came back to fight the great Marvin Hagler, to prove a point not only to the world, but to himself.

Shutting Froch up would be one of Joe's biggest achievements.

Make him respect you. Give him it Joe. Shut him up for good.

1 more time Joe. 1 more time.

Carl Froch is too slow mate.

If Joe Calzaghe can return within 80% of his last fight..? he would beat Froch.

Carl Froch is always being beaten up, he very rarely dominates his opponents, very rarely looks on a totally different level. Joe Calzaghe at times separated himself from the pack, he could reach another level that Carl Froch psychologically cannot comprehend. People go on about Carl Froch being this great genetic athlete. Joe Calzaghe had black athletes confused, he was not cut from the same cloth of Carl Froch. Joe Calzaghe is a genetic mutation just like Usain Bolt. Speed, agility, co-ordination, Speed Endurance he out did Carl Froch in all these departments.

I want him to come back, and i think he will!

People keep banging on about Froch's run of fights, he was made to look like a ****** against Dirrell, he was beaten by Ward, he was beaten by Kessler first time around. He had other good performances, but guys like Taylor & Abraham did nothing at 168, Glenn Johnson was half dead.

I think Joe Calzaghe should come back.

Most people only pick up on Carl Froch referring to himself as a Warrior. But Carl Froch has of late mentioned on multiple occasions that he is Genetically gifted. He has mentioned his black book, and his training records to back his up. I do think Carl Froch is a in conditioned athlete and biologically he is not your average or even healthy 35 year old. But when it comes to being a outstanding athlete in terms of Speed, Motor Co-ordination, agility, and abnormal endurance..? He is not on the level of Joe Calzaghe. You can have the most meticulous training regime and nutritional intake, and still not produce the ability of Joe Calzaghe or Roy Jones for example.

Eubank vs Calzaghe was maybe even more intense than Kessler vs Froch, and Calzaghe had the time of his life.

    Agreed.

Carl might be beating old records, but he's not an athlete like Mayweather (for instance).

I think a lot of people either forget or fail to realize how gifted Calzaghe was. There's no way in hell Froch would've beaten him at his best. He's not knocking him out - people also forget how good Joe's chin was in his prime, and he's not out boxing or outpointing him in a million years either. Joe's stamina was absolutely freakish and his opponents would've obviously have had to train like ****ing demons and get themselves in tip top shape just to be able to hang with him.

Here's what one of his former opponents Nick Manners had to say about Joe's fitness and stamina after he'd been invited up to Newbridge to spar with Joe during his preparation for the Eubank fight.

''I was a fit lad and always aimed to be the fittest in the gym along with my brother Colin (former middleweight professional). I used to be a handy runner and never had any trouble with stamina or speed, but with Joe he used to run up these massive Welsh hills and keep an incredible pace. One day I was flagging behind totally exhausted and he motioned to wait for me. I said ''Joe get along I'm fine, you're training for a world title fight I don't want to slow you down''. He sped off and this little bus drove past: it came past regularly when we were up in those hills, we used to wave when they bleeped their horns. I was so spent I flagged it down and hitched a ride, Joe was still puffing and panting up the steep hill and I just waved to him as the bus passed''

Here's what Bradley Price had to say about Joe's stamina during an interview where he was being quizzed about being denied access to the US (Visa problems due to him having a criminal record). Price was meant to be Joe's main sparring partner for the Hopkins fight. A bloody domestic level light-middleweight/European at best with a style nothing remotely close to Hopkins' is just the kind of quality sparring one would want going into a fight of that magnitude and against one of the craftiest, trickiest opponents you could hope not to face. lol

"My visa delay is a blow for Joe's training and for mine too but I'm confident I'll be flying out on Saturday. Our stablemate Nathan Cleverly and I normally spar with Joe in the build-up to his fights. Joe's stamina and work-rate is so intense that Nathan and I share sparring with him, I do two rounds then Nathan does two. That's tiring enough but poor Nathan is having to do it all at the moment. I don't envy him as Joe is in fantastic shape."

Both Pryce and Cleverly were extremely fit boys themselves and they'd been running up those long and winding steep Welsh hills for years and years too.

And here's what Charles Brewer had to say about facing Joe.

''I dished out a lot more punishment than I ever took during my career, but I’d have to say the toughest and most exciting fight I ever had was with Joe Calzaghe,” Brewer said.

“Joe was not a one-punch KO kind of guy, but he overwhelmed guys; he had those ridiculous combinations! And I deviated from my game-plan that night in Wales, and we just warred; we went two-to-toe for 12-rounds. It was a battle of heart and guts. Joe was just a great technical, mentally draining, puncher''

x3 fantastic post and agree with it all.

think even now joe can come back and dance all round froch.would not have to be the old joe to get it done a 90 per cent would suffice.as with ward joe is all wrong for froch.

good point about groves.as a big groves fan the way carl carries on really winds me up.he has been there and knows the game and how it works plus groves has been nowhere near as vocal as froch was and is higher ranked than froch ever was with all the bodies as you say when he was calling the best in the division out.

as keep saying i really like both fighters but the way froch is carrying on he seems to think he is sugar ray or something!

Joe has been offered a LOT of money to come back. It was telling that he picked Jones Jr as his swansong, knowing that he wasn't going to be a massive threat. Joe knew he was on the slide given how he struggled with Hopkins.

I suspect he likes his lifestyle, spends time with his kids and girlfriend, and has his investments to keep him earning. He'll be totally shot now, so I think it would be a sum so obscene that it could refarm third world countries entirely.

And no one will pay that for him, honestly.

Calzaghe isn't coming back that's for sure and a fight against a 41 year old version of him doesn't really make froch looks good anyway legacy wise even if he wins. It's a meaningless fight now.

Joe is very content with what he has achieved, cleaned out the SMW division and beaten 2 great LHW HOF fighters. It would be stupid to come back for money, which he should have plenty of. Froch has achieved great things in boxing massive respect for him, he would have a better chance of beating ward if the fight happens in England.

If he could make the weight he probably would of came back but he hasn't made 168 in 6 years.
He struggled to fight at smw even when he was active.
No way could he ever make the weight again.
