In my opinion Roy defeats Ali on points.

Good thread, well respected. But a better question would be if a 1998 Roy Jones Jr could defeat a 1967 Muhammad Ali as both were gifted, the limit would be 15 rounds.

    I
74 Ali lacked the footspeed he had in the 60s. However, he hit a bit harder.
I think 98 RJJ clearly had superior physical qualities (speed, reflexes), while Ali was stronger and probably hit harder.
I'll probably choose RJJ on points, but I ain't sure 100%.

Muhammad Ali is not John Ruiz, the answer is no.

I see Ali, behind on the cards by a slight margin, to Ko Jones.
    Ali Ko 12.

Ali by points verdict or late tko. Ali would have matched Jones for speed - even though Ali was n't quite as fast as he was at his sixties best,he was still very fast for a heavyweight. He also hit harder and had more solid whiskers than RJJ.

We have to assume that a 200 pound version of Roy at 29 years old, would have been a better fighter than the version that we saw against John Ruiz in 2003, when he was 34. But I still don’t think that it would have been enough. Ali was past his best then, but I don’t see any version of Roy beating Ali from the RITJ.

Roy wouldn’t have fought him aggressively.

It wouldn’t have been a fast paced fight.

The realistic outcome would have been Ali on points, or a mid to late round stoppage.
