Griffith was rated No.29 by the ring mag in a list of the 50 best P4P fighters of the last 50 years in 1996, Benitez was rated 30th in the same list.

Info given on Griffith: Quality of competition: 10
    Bouts v top 50 fighters: 4
Why he was on list: Without much of a punch, he was a great fighter in two divisions.
What he could have done to improve his ranking: Fought Carlos Monzon somewhere other than Buenos Aires and Monte Carlo.

Benitez info: Quality of competition: 10
    Bouts v top 50 fighters: 4
Why he`s here: At age 17, he was better than almost anybody else in the world.
What he could have done to improve his ranking: Outpointed Ray Leonard or Tommy Hearns.

Both were great boxers, but I think Benitez was a little bit more adept. However, Griffith was MUCH tougher than Benitez. Griffith SD.

I have Griffith, but it is a close one to call. Pre-Paret Griffith was tough as nails and fairly good finisher, while Benitez is just a bit more full in the skills department. If it turns into a war, I definitely take Griffith, but anything else is close.

I'd pick a peak Griffith (circa 1966) over Benitez. He would have figured out and decisioned Benitez like he did Gypsy Joe Harris.

Benitez on his A-game would have outboxed Griffith.

I have a much easier time seeing Benitez out-box Griffith like he did Cervantes; another elite fighter with a straight up and down textbook style.

I see a lot more similarities there than I do between Benitez and the giant headed Harris.

The best of Benitez gets it done but his window is much smaller than Griffith’s.
