it wouldnt an easy 12 rd blowout that a prime jones would typoically be involved in, but prime jones would beat calzaghe. prime jones was just a better an overall, more talented fighter. very few fighters match-up well with a prime jones.

You have said the Hopkins that fought Pavlik was better than the one that fought Jones, therefor you must think the Hopkins Calzaghe beat is better then the one Jones beat. There is nothing I can say to that, just watch the videos. then come back and tell me if you still feel that way. Analyze Jones and Hopkins here below and then the 2 imposters that fought Calzaghe. Tell me what you see different. movement (feet, upperbody), speed, pressure, combinations, etc etc :good enjoy the show, you are about to watch something I'm sure you have never seen :patsch:lol:

A COMPLETELY shot RJJ put him on his ass! LMAO!

The comparison is insane. Slappy Joe was, is, and will be a clown. He never set foot in the US to face guys like RJJ, James Toney, and B-Hop when they were prime and now you guys want to say he has a chance against prime versions?

    Please!

Hey Dawg, mind doing the same little ranking thing with Hopkins and Calzaghe's best fights? I'd like to see your opinion on that too.

His best fights were obviously after his prime, lacy/kessler/hopkins and jones. the ****ing point is he didnt get the fights because he didnt make enough money in his prime

Tough fight for RJJ. I think JC has a little too much speed and footwork. He's also tough as hell. JC split decision.

    OK - so here goes....

A - look forward to your assessment, i like opinions but remember I'm not running down Jones - you won't see any reference to lack of basic technique or glass jaw from me that others post. A fighter is greater than the sum of the parts because some of those parts are intangible. In other words for me - those don't matter because the rest was good enough to overcome. I simply wanted to illustrate (and have done so before here) that there was a very long time after he posted for me the best two wins of his career that his opposition wasn't competitive or top notch.

B - I didn't avoid the question I've stated that RJJ didn't face anybody with that style. Find them for me? Clearly Calzaghe didn't face anybody remotely like Jones.

C - No conspiracy theory I left Toney & Hopkins off because nobody doubts what fine fighters they were. I also left off all of the crushing defeats because they're irrelevant to the question. This was really a sub-set of A - I was illustrating the very long time he wasn't fighting competitive fights, not denegrating or overlooking Lights Out or BHOP. I'm not even running RJJ down for that just bring a little balance.

I think you clearly have a very strong knowledge of RJJ but I don't believe your view of JC is similarly informed.

Allow me to state that this is a topic which has been talked about at length many many times already. Everybody thinks Jones takes it. I don't really know, because Jones never fought anyone while he was in his prime. Calzaghe in his own prime packed a wallop, so we might have seen Jone's glass jaw get shattered much earlier. God knows Calzaghe would be 20 times better and a million times faster than anyone Jones was facing then.

but let's put this to rest and say that nobody really cares right now anyway.

Jones would had beaten Joe but it wouldnt be as easy as some might think. I even see Roy dropping Joe at least 2 times.

I'm not so kind to Hopkins as I am to Jones dude.

    I think Hopkins best wins:
    Tito
    Oscar
    Pavlik
    Winky
    Tarver

4 of them had to move up (Tito was already there, but still not his best weight) to fight Hopkins, and Tarver was not even close to the guy he was when he was coming up and motivated for the title and greatness.
