I have been saying this for years..
But now that I think about it, We basically have it in effect right now.
SHW division is in full effect in '09
    (It ate the HW division)

Just a thought and I'm not sure it'd work...but how about capping the HW limit at say 270lb???

It may be a good idea in some ways.If it got some of the guys like somebody pointed out Arreola to train harder. But it would be difficult to make it work as it would be seen as just annother division in a sport which already has too many. This should maybe have happend a few years ago when the really big guys from the eastern block started to emerge.

Or it could make people even lazier to pack on the pounds to fight in a Super Heavyweight Division. The last thing Boxing needs is more weight classes.

Let's separate the symptoms from the solutions.

The symptom: we have a division in which it's not only possible but commonplace in any given matchup to have eight inch height disparities, even crazier wingspan differentials, and enough of a weight gap to fill out an obese midget.

    The proposed cures:
    - Split Heavyweight into two divisions.
    - Keep a single division but remove the "unlimited" clause and cap it off somewhere reasonable.
    - Put up a "you must be this tall to enter" sign and force guys under say 6'2" to compete at Cruiser or hit the road.

The merits of individuals cures can and ought to be debated, but the presence and severity of the symptom/ailment can not and should not be swept under the rug.

No, call it the Heavyweight division. The name is very important. HW is the marquee division, the one casuals are drawn to. If you create a Super HW division then casuals will understand straight away what they're getting, bigger and slower.

The stupidest thing ever was the Cruiserweight division. People dont know what it is and dont care, when in fact it should be one of the most exciting divisions. HW sized guys who have to keep in shape, it should be full of fast guys with KO power. But because its got a shitty name.

The title Junior heavyweight would confuse alot of people, it could be mistaken for light heavyweight..
